And other tidbits of wisdom I give my kids for when they leave home.
This evening was ramping it up with "Buy a plumbing snake or chew your food more."
But I ~did~ get one minutes before Home Depot closed for the evening.

That is sage advice
When I moved to Florida and moved in to my rented townhouse, I found myself in that same situation. Luckily, there was a Home Depot less than a mile from my house. I must of looked gloomy standing in line at the cashier with my plunger in hand because the friendly cashier lady apologized for me having to buy a plunger. I chuckled and said "Like death and taxes, some things are unavoidable." LOL
Many years ago, on our first Halloween together, my blushing bride-to-be jammed three pumpkins worth of guts down the garbage disposal in our rental house. Took out ALL the drains!
I remember standing in line with a snake at 8 pm on Sunday at Wally World and the clerk saying "and how are you this evening?" One guess lady, one guess.
We just moved and we left behind our old plunger and brush, and I made damn sure there was at least a roll available at each john. I mean, I am a human being.
When I bought my house, an older friend of mine told me that when I needed to buy something in the plumbing dept I should buy a lot of extra and parts that seemed wrong and excessive. It has paid in spades both in having the part when I need it and not having to run back and forth to the store for "one last part"
Something not plumbing related: when you know you will be storing your outdoor power equipment for more than a few weeks, shut the fuel off and run it out of gas. Along the same lines: always use Sta-bil.
And another: keys, lots of keys. Carry them, hide them, keep them in every car and bike.
And if they just bought their first house: try to make at least one extra payment every year. The amount of time that will shave from your mortgage is incredible.
Get a water valve key to shut off the main line to your house. This $15 investment has saved us and our neighbors thousands of dollars...

No doubt! For my last mortgage, it took a 30 year to about 22 years.
