I want to leave a key in my 2014 Prius with the doors unlocked. I live in the country and multiple people use the car. Does this drain the 12v battery? Or the fob battery? I'm getting conflicting reports on the Toyota forum searches I do.
My neighbor does it and on his Prius and has no issues. But my Prius was dead the other day and needed a jump. Also, it seems like it's going through fob batteries quickly.
Thoughts?
Will the key work without a battery ?
or could you put the keyfob in a faraday cage bag ?
Yeah, I could do that. Thanks. I was thinking about an Altoids tin.
I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows about Prius keys to know for sure if the key fob is drawing on the 12V battery when it's left in the car? My neighbor never has the issue and he has the same car.

It's a very minor drain so the car might only be able to sit unused for 3 weeks instead of 3 months.
Gotcha. Even though the key is in the car it's still sending a signal. Good to know. My neighbor must be using his car more so he doesn't have the issue.
I'm assuming it drains the key fob battery as well?
Would a metal tin work? Or do I need something like faraday cage bag?

What about putting one of those solar battery maintainers on the car? Then it'll pretty much take care of itself

Yeah that could be cool, thanks for the idea.
