Car I learned to drive a stick on (an '88 carb'd version with a 4-spd, no air, no radio, manual everything - ah the good old days!) .

Similar to that one, but mine was silver with a black interior.

What I learned to drive a stick with (no joke):

1969 Plymouth Road Runner with a 383 with the 4 speed. I was about 13 or 14. My dad bought one from the "Recycler" (kinda like a printed craigslist) out west for $4k. It was dull yellow with "Yeti" as the vanity plate. Was friggin awesome

I learned to drive stick in one of these. Except mine was not nearly as nice. To give you an idea, dad traded it even for a 4 year old color TV back in '84.....

Same here. That reversed shift pattern was weird but I didn't know it at the time (8 years old). When I was 15, my dad taught me how to properly drive a 4 speed in one of these:

His was a custom he got in some sort of trade deal, it had been dechromed (the door handles were removed, it had solenoids to pop them open and the fuel fill was inside the drivers' door jamb, no bumpers, etc), side pipes, 327 with a Muncie. It had a Mr Gasket shifter with a bias spring so stiff I swear I had to use both hands to pull it to the left. Damn, that thing was FUN.

Learned how to drive in one of these when I was 13, and it was a manual trans. 3 on the tree, floor button starter. Lots of fun. Wish I had it now.

Very similar to my experience:

1994 Escort Wagon - The Driver's Ed whipping boy

My first car was this:

1980 Toyota Celica GT Liftback - 20R, 5spd, power NOTHING, 68k original miles when it got handed down to me

A truck just like that, including the color, was one of my firsts. I can't remember if it was my dad's truck or my mom's 51 Dodge that I drove first. I do remember that my uncle turned me loose with his Ford 8N tractor and a bush hog though. I was so light that I failed to depress the clutch over-center putting it up and knocked out the boards on the back of the storeage shed attached to his barn. Fortunately he thought is was kind of funny. I didn't!

Me too! My dad taught me in the parking lot where he worked when I was 14. Never stalled it either :) We even set up a skid pad and a slalom later on in the lessons to teach me limits. Security was not amused.
