In the vein of the other "stop" threads, I'd totally don't want to see interesting automotive or garage related 3d print files to print on my new 3d printer....

I don't have anything to contribute, but I think this is a great idea. After spending years trying to teach customers how to make video content for their LED signs, I've always suspected that usable 3D design software is the choke point to widespread 3d printer usage. Designing in 3D is not easy, and last time I messed with it the software was all pretty obtuse. I'm interested to see how that's changed in the last few years.

3D printing has come a long way. I work in solidworks daily and all of our3D printing at work goes through me.

I'm using a Form2 from formlabs. It's got some of its own things to know because the different resin's have different properties. But the software is very user friendly to setup the prints from the 3D files.

I bought this on prime day for 169.99 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DGV2L8Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it took me an hour or so to build last night and it's taken most of the morning to get the kinks worked out (totally all my doing).  It's currently almost done with a "benchy" boat to confirm I have the setting where I want them, then I'll try my first real print at 1 day 8 hours long.

That's a good deal on an Ender 3! Welcome to the world of 3d printing.

I don't post my own designs to thingiverse because the creative commons license doesn't provide any real legal protection to your own designs.  I do have a few designs I'd be willing to send privately to a GRMer though if anyone has any interest.

LS3 block Spark Plug holder

3" tubing 9° pie cut jig

CD009 Shifter plate pattern

And this big Hot, Nasty switch panel I have been working on. This is going to be an overhead switch panel in my truck.

I'd for sure like to have the pie cut jig, and that switch panel looks sweet.

In reply to RacetruckRon :

FYI: There are sites where you can post your 3d models and STL files and get paid for them before they can download them.

Cults3d.com for example

For searching across multiple sites for designs, you can use yeggi.com, filter on certain things, etc.  it helps for searching on Thingiverse since their site kinda sucks for that.

In reply to Stefan :

I might have to look into that. But I'm not so worried about making money off of my designs as I am some other joker downloading my file and turning a profit on it.  I suppose that's just the natural discretion of a design engineer in the fast moving and competitive field of consumer tools.

In reply to RacetruckRon :

I don't see that happening as the Creative Commons License allows for free use of the design as long as it isn't for profit, but you don't have to share if you don't want to.

You can also put the files on Dropbox or Google Drive and control access that way while still keeping it "free"

If you do want to make them available for people to buy as completed pieces, then etsy.com is a decent solution.

These are awesome, I'm almost compelled to learn a bit more about 3d printing now.

EDIT: I just measured my lego dude and he is only 6" tall. Not the first time I claimed something was 10" when it is really 6".

I don't mean to threadjack, but thought you might enjoy this.

A business near where I work was moving yesterday,

this is an RPM 557 3D metal printer being hauled out to be transported to their new facility.

The build volume is 5 x 5 x7 FEET. with lasers.  in metal :)
