Can somebody direct me to a good introduction to chess for an adult? I tend naturally to think of books because of my age, but the prospective student is highly tech-savvy and would be very open to online or DVD-based stuff too. Thanks, GRM hive!

Depending on where you are, there might be a local chess organization which regularly hosts workshops and has training material.

Here's a fantastic one in St. Louis, for example: http://saintlouischessclub.org/

They have videos on that site, by the way.

My son, after participating in "after school" chess once per week for a year, taught me when he was seven. Great game to learn at any age.

So, I guess.. Find a young kid who plays. Harder to get frustrated when learning from a kid.

Hang out with people who play chess. Read a book on chess openings.
