Company party is tonight. Nice Italian place. Open bar, boss says he will pay cab fare for anybody that needs it. I am a bit concerned about the trip home. Not because of me, but the rest of the party goes on the road and the expected heavy police presence. Party should be a lot of fun.

Our company doesn't have Christmas or holiday parties anymore.
We did ours last night and went back to the way we did them back in the day: Japanese steakhouse and then bowling. And, yes, there was some drinking involved as well.
The evening was fun and much appreciated. We have a great group here.
We had the Christmas party yesterday. I got a six inch sub and a hand full of potato chips. The room was full of engineers talking about GM's MOST network. Oh what fun!
We bring in chicken, salad, mostacolli, beef, bread, and brownies. The warehouse guys get an extra 30 minutes for lunch but have to listen to the year end speech. I feel bad I missed it for that scheduled vacation day.
Also, a PS. We didn't do secret Santa or Chinese gift exchange or whatever this year, either.
A few weeks ago Margie and I were going to lunch, and while driving past our old, old office we noticed a crowd of people. What were they doing in this mostly residential neighborhood? Dunno. Family gathering? But on a workday?
Margie later found out: food distribution for those in need.
That was the answer. Instead of trinkets for each other, we pooled our money and donated to the local food bank: http://www.foodbankcentralflorida.org/site/PageServer
Then the company matched it.
In the end, I think we helped feed a nice number of people. Stuff is nice, but food is nicer.
In reply to David S. Wallens:
I would call that a super Santa, classy crowd there at world HQ

The Company doesn't put on a Christmas party but each depot's union office usually does. Since our depot is closing the end of the year we had a party this afternoon. The bosses had food brought in and we each got a mug and T-shirt with the depot logo on it. A lot of pur retirees came back and we had a good time. We had a terrific group of people that I will miss working with everyday.
Had mine on Thursday, we had a big lunch buffet, activities with prizes and then karaoke. I won a $50 gift certificate to a mens' clothes store for doing the best impression of a male model. A coworker probably went overboard when he went into Chippendale dancer territory
We actually had 3-separate ones at work. Our whole facility had a lunch last Friday at an area banquet hall, including door prizes and gift certificates to various local establishments, followed by the afternoon off. They Tuesday we had a joint carry-in lunch with another department, followed by a white-elephant gift exchange for our department. Then yesterday was the annual IT vs. Accounting bowling tournament, preceded by lunch at a local Mexican place & followed by the afternoon off. Oh and we each got an envelope on the way out of the bowling alley yesterday & mine had 2 extra days off!
