Suggestions, without having to go into too graphic detail...?
well did they give you the mix or the pill? if they gave you the mix, you are hosed...the pills are the latest and one billion times better than the mix...you will loose 4 to 6 pounds, they will put you to sleep, you will wake up and thats it, enjoy the mix, hopefully you did not get the mix! and they have changed to protocal to every ten years so it will be a while before your next one..
we have a ton of colon cancer that runs in the family (aunts, uncles, grandma, grandpa, mom etc all died from it) so I got the pleasure at 30 for my first and every 5 years after...
if you can get the flavored version of go-lightly do it... I waited until the last min and couldn't without $100 up charge... had I asked my dr to change my prescription for it it would have been covered... my other experience would be to drink the stuff in the time frame on the jug... I drank mine too quickly as it was so disgusting the only way I could get it down was chugging... that lead to prob as much coming back "up" as it did the intended out option... the other tidbit is to be prepared before you drink the first glass... my father in law brought a tv into the bathroom... I just made sure the laptop was charged up ;-)
as for the rest... the prep and getting hooked up to IV's is the worst part... you wont' feel a thing and after the fast and "prep" you'll be ready for it to be over and go eat.
My wife is colon cancer free after 15 years. She gets a colonoscopy every two years or so. She takes the pills. Don't be nervous. Treat yourself to a good meal afterwards.
just saw the comment on the pill and came across this... some good tips namely wet wipes would be worth it lol... http://www.ccalliance.org/screening/27_tips.html

that depends on what they find
I had to go through this last year and I probably lost 10 lbs from the stress. I did not feel a thing, it was completely painless. Afterwards you feel full of air, thats it.
My mother survived colon cancer and breast cancer, both my grandfathers died of colon cancer.
Do the maintenance.
Don't sweat it.
Just had one a month ago. I had liquid prep but not the gallon mix version, mine was 8 oz. prep w/ water in 16 oz. cup at 6 p.m. followed by 2 cupfulls of water w/ in an hour. I was on the pot for a little over an hour till completely done. Brought phone, reading material (GRM just had arrived) etc. Repeat prep at 5 a.m., sit another hour, and done.
Procedure was nothing, relieved when it was over, only had a few small polyps. I was 5 years over the recommended age of 50 and there's some history in family. Glad it's done now, shoulda went earlier.
All in all it was about 15 hours of inconvenience and really not as bad as some make it out to be. Afterward, breakfast buffet.
I recall a funny story where my uncle had to get one. The nurse gave him a gallon of this stuff he had to drink to clean him out. She told him it was pineapple flavored.
The next day he went in for the procedure and saw the same nurse. He told her "Lady, either you've never had a pineapple, or you've never drank any of that squirt juice." lol

My first one was done with no anesthesia at all. I clawed the paint off of a cinder block wall and started yelling at him that he had bottomed out. He was damn determined to make that corner. Fortunately my wife was in the room and came to my defense because he had the drop on me.
With the gentle anesthesia they give you now it's no problem at all. Like said previously, just an inconvenience. All things considered well worth the time.
I get them every 5 years due to Crohnes. I have done them wide awake and asleep. The latter is more pleasant, but the former makes the car trip home more fun if you think farting is funny.
Got my first one at 27, gotta go back every two years.
A tip, the liquid they give you to clean you out is horrible tasting. Start chugging and don't stop until it's done.
Be near a toilet. No stairs, no doors, no gates.
Other than that they knock your ass out and you wake up 45 minutes later, really hungry. I killed two wawa subs one after the other.
I had my first last year. Exactly as others have said, be prepared for several hours in the bathroom and have plenty of wet-wipes.
They gave me a "twilight" anesthesia(no vampires involved , though I don't remember a damn thing after she started giving me the IV until I woke up on the gurney back to my room.
Afterward, we hit the drive-through somewhere but I was really in no shape to eat, or be in public. Even after the hour ride home, I just went straight to bed and didn't wake up for several hours.
Pics or it didn't...oh, wait, never mind...
Seriously, good luck. I hope this goes as well as something like this possibly can.
Speaking of all this, it kinda gives new meaning to Metallica's "Metal up your ass!" as we get older, doesn't it?

I have some nice glossy pics of the insides of my intestines. Ask your doc, he might give you a copy so you can see what you look like inside
For some, the docs give them the pics so they can show them where their head has been all these years.
Had mine done last year. I'd heard that they won't let you go until you've passed has. I was a little loopy when I woke up but remembered that little tidbit. Let out a nice long, loud one. The nurse walked a few minutes later and I said "I farted" like a deserved a trophy. She looked at me like I was crazy. A minute later I did it again the said "See, I farted again". She said "Well good for you" and left. My wife let me know later that the nurse was not amused. The people outside the curtain did giggle a bit though.
I've had 2 … next due in 5 yrs… liquid (I gotta remember to ask about the pills)
both done under anesthesia, but it was administered via pill form (no IV's )
neither did I have to spend hrs on the can … when the need to go hit, there wasn't much time to get there (but was about an hr after drinking the nasty stuff) … then through in about 5min … back again within 30 min for another 5 min evacuation
then same thing the next morning
