Hey guys its been a while. I am gearing up for a big move, I am ditching the San Fransisco Bay area and headded off to Colorado (south west of Denver)

What is the local Autocross scene like? Any good clubs in the area? (aside from the SCCA obviously)

Is planning to DD my lowered Miata in the winter utterly foolish?

I don't know about AX, but they have one of the best rallycross regions in the country. One of them was down here in Houston for a couple of years and through him I met a couple of others and they were all great guys. Put some regular springs back under that Miata and go make some friends!

You know, I have always wanted to try rallyx... I guess I will need to "borrow" the wife's car for a day...

Your Miata will be fine for most of the Winter, but you will need another vehicle occasionally. A few times each year, Denver will get a foot or two of snow overnight--clogging everything up pretty good. It usually melts off within a few days, but while it's on the ground, you'll need something with ground clearance as they usually don't plow secondary streets. Keep the Miata, and buy a Jeep Cherokee or something similar for a Winter beater. A 4x4 is also very handy for heading up into the mountains to ski, or in the warmer weather-- to check out the off-road trails / ghost towns/ etc.

When I was there the autocross scene was pretty healthy--- through SCCA. You also have Second Creek Raceway, Pike Peak International Raceway, and Pueblo Motorsports Park all within a few hours drive.

Sweet, Thanks for the info Joe!

Here in the SF Bay area we have baautox.com which is a forum that the various local clubs and people and post event info and or co-driving opportunities to, my google search didn't turn up anything similar in the Denver area but my Google-fu is sometimes weak. Is anyone aware of anything similar there?

You'll need to log in to post.
