A while back there was a discussion and some links to get on-line glasses for cheap. Are there any places for cheap contacts?

aside from 1800contacts? My local wallyworld is the cheapest around and they just started ordering FROM 1800contacts.

I use visiondirect.com, they were cheaper for me than 1800contacts once shipping figured in.

Just get lasik (I did PRK) and you'll never have this dilemma again. :-)

So are you saying that you would have done better with lasik than PRK?

I got the laser eye surgery and threw it all away (I donated my glasses to the Lions Club Box)

I wore coke bottle glasses and had constant issues with my contacts. On a sunny day I can see clearly and forever.

Dr. Foulkes in Hinsdale, Illinois did mine along with Dan Hampton of the Chicago Bears. Bernie Mac too.

I actually prefer the PRK - no cutting. It is just a little more painful. My line of work won't allow the cutting.

I've had Lasik and PRK and I still need glasses. That seems to be a common issue. Lasik and PRK promises to change your vision, not make it perfect.

The people with coke bottle glasses tend to be more satisfied because almost anything is a major improvement.

And then there's the as the eyes get older they change issue which causes the need for glasses even more.

I'm at 20/15 in both eyes, but I'll probably need reading glasses someday. The doctor I used said that if I ever get worse than 20/40 they'll go back correct it for free. Not a bad deal I'd say.

I avoid Wal Mart whenever possible, but Jebus is their 'Vision Center' ever cheap! Here's to union busting and slave labor, eh? I guess it's good to be on top...

$700 on lasik for me over a year ago, absolutely best money I've ever spent. I was a bad contact wearer, I would leave them in (including overnight) for 30 days or more. Super lazy and definitely harmful to my eyes. Now my eyes are happy and I have perfectly clear 20/15 sight.

My doctor doesn't advertise at all, only does business through referrals. He's cheap, but I have nothing but positive things to say.

Another vote for these guys. That's where we get our contacts - all 4 of us. If you have an extreme prescription they may not stock it, but out of 8 different lenses among the family, there's only 1 they don't have.

I had contacts and HATED them, I never remembered to put them in, and was constantly not seeing things I should have...I got glasses, and I have never forgotten to put them on.

great! ooh, and they fit in my helmet! thats a bonus.

In reply to Dan G:

yeah i was lazy with my contacts too. Then my cornea started to decompose... 3 months of 3 different eye drops a day and now im religious with contacts. The thought of going blind kinda freaked me out.

I use wallyworld as well for contacts, normal prices are low compared to the other local places, and sometimes they even have sales (then i buy in bulk.) i suppose i should plan ahead and order them online, but i stopped doing that when the govt suddenly decided you needed to have a prescription. my vision hasn't changed in 15 years, but now i have to pay an eye doc $100 to tell me that every year, or when im near running out of fresh lenses at least.

maybe next year ill go for lasik, but surgery on my orbs is a pretty scary thought , it would be nice to be rid of the now mandatory accessories though.

My contacts correct me to 20/15 vision, and take care of the mild astigmatism, too. I love 'em.

But there are two things I've learned:

Hot pepper oils burn a LOT for a short time.

Mint oils burn a little for a LONG time.

That's scary! I don't ever sleep in my contacts (once in a blue moon). I always wake up with eye boogies and dry lenses. I hate when my eyes are uncomfortable.

The worst thing I did was go for like three months without changing a pair of two-week lenses (one month lenses if you live in Europe).

I keep thinking about "lasers" but I've never had any sort of surgery or medical work past a root canal. I guess I never muster enough courage to overcome the fact that putting in contacts every morning doesn't really bother me.

I do occassionally, but very very rarely, fall asleep with them in, but for the most part it's just a couple of quick pops in the morning.

Anyway, this year was different for me because my vision insurance carrier had a decent deal with the eye doctor, but in previous years I got them from Costco with my prescription.

I've used these guys for a few years.

You get a cheap pair of gradient tinted wraparound sunglasses with every order, so you'l never be wanting for spare shades...

I've ordered from 1800contacts for about 10 years now. Contemplating Lasik or corrective surgery. Been wearing coke bottles since I was 4th grade (29 years now - wearing contacts for 25 years).

I'm telling you, Lasik or prk is the way to go! The initial cost can be steep ($1150 per eye for me, but PRK is more expensive than lasik), but the cost/benefit ratio for me leans toward hot beams of light shone in my eyes once, rather than flimsy pieces of glass or plastic poked into them everyday for the remainder of my mortal existence...

I'm waiting for surgery that will fix color vision problems. When you can make me see red and green right, you can sign me up for surgery.

You'll need to log in to post.
