I went to find an alternator rebuilder yesterday, in the local "auto shop row" where all the repair businesses are, or as i found out, used to be.. two years ago there weren't any unoccupied garages, now its 80% empty. sad.. rebuilder was gone as well, but there is a thrift store and i stopped in to check out what books they had. last time i was in there I scored on a snap on fuel injection service manual for a buck..
.
This time nothing really caught my eye, until i saw a plain hard cover with "turbo" in the title. picked it up and saw it was written by Niki Lauda, so with a few other various non automotive books i paid my 80 cents, threw the change in the donation bucket and went home.
late last night i took the books out of the bag, and started perusing through the books. when i got to the lauda book "the new formula one, a turbo age" I turned to the forward to see what it was all about. under the forward I found an autograph from Niki Lauda....
turns out its a first edition, in great shape and signed, missing only the dust cover. even with the sig im not sure its worth much (assuming its authentic), but I thought that was pretty cool and am looking forward to reading it. should be an interesting snap shot of the late 70's, early 80's international racing scene and technology.
Best 80 cents you ever spent!

Nice! Similar score... back in middle/high school I loved these Dragonlance fantasy books (found out some were better than other the more I read). Well, I had the first three books of the series purchased together as one book, but when in a recycle center I saw a few old ones there so grabbed them. One of them turned out to be the first book, signed by one of the authors which I thought was pretty cool. I forget what it's called but it's sitting on my shelf at home. Not in good condition but it looks better that way.
I once found and Oscar Brand record at a thrift store for $.25. He had done a recoring in the 60s (?) of dirty Air Force songs from WWII. There was an article aboot it in Air & Space about how the auther tracked one down for $65.00. And here's me getting one for 2 bits!

Wouldn't be Dragons of Autumn Twilight, would it?
