Everyone knows my fascination with all things marine.. I found this and it looks like both a challenge and great fun in the same vein as the GRM 20XX challenge.
The Cordless Canoe Challenge. Run at Beale Park in the UK, the rules are simple, you can use up to 4 cordless Makita drills to power you boat. (there are more rules, but that is the main one)

Seems like a 2-man scull would have the least form drag.

yes, but it needs to turn too.. and you need the oars to keep upright
