Just reading that sentence almost made me throw up in my mouth just now. There was this one shiny happy person on my team who made it his goal to achieve this in every shooting drill.

I never played goal in organized hockey (as soon as my parents found out how much real pads cost that dream was over), but I played plenty of pond and street hockey in net. That's pretty much how I got into lacrosse, once I found out I didn't have to wear several grand worth of equipment I was in .

I figured you were just joking around, but most of the people in southern PA where I live believe that to be a goalie you just stand there. They think you never have to move and that the equipment will protect you from anything. If you watch a hockey game and the goalie slides from post to post he is just trying to look cool, all he really needs to do is stand there.

Come to think of it, we had one of those guys on my college team too.....and he was from Maine. TAINT pleasant, is it?

Earlier in my career I took a hockey puck to the melon. It drove one of the screws holding my mask on, into my head. Knocked me out, and I got few stitches. I sure was glad when we were able to start using modern goal masks.

Is it really any wonder that I'm 35 and my body feels like it is 70?!

Not for lack of trying; the "we need a new ballpark" discussion pops up every so often in Boston.

You can't blame that loss on Leighton, his defensemen left him out in the cold (not a pun, it's really the best I can come up with at this time of the day) I like Thomas too, but he really screwed up going for that retaliation that led to that goal. I watched it with my dad while visiting my parents for Christmas. We both wondered why anyone would go; you couldn't see a thing from nearly any of those seats. The ones that you could see from were up around $750 a piece. And that Sweet Caroline bit in the middle of the third period was really weird. I felt like I was going to get sucked into the Twilight Zone. Keep that crap to the Hallmark Channel, Boston.

I would like to say that I agree 100% with every word of this. Especially the parts about both teams losing and the Hallmark channel. I even watched it at my parents' house.

Now, since I've lived in Texas all my life, I'll shut up about hockey.

I don't know if you guys know this, but the Sweet Caroline sing-along is a tradition at Fenway in the middle of the 8th at Sox games. Everyone gets into it, and some might even say that the little injection of energy in the park near the end of every game has something to do with the Redsox' propensity for late inning comeback victories at home. It was amazing how much the end of this game felt like one of those walk-off Sox wins. I can totally see how someone from out of town would absolutely detest all of this .

I don't detest it. I just think it's disturbingly weird.

Yeah, that's kinda the source of its charm.

.......Or the "groin strains". Those are killers and take forever to heal.
