This is a moment in my life that I will possibly will never get again. I have approval by my girlfriend to buy a car! Yes. No need to hide it from her, lie that I'm going to buy a gallon of milk and come back with a racecar on a dolly. This, to me, is like Moses parting the Red Sea to a second hand Craigslist beater.
Problem: Nobody will respond to the ads'! I've called, emailed, sent smoke signals, messenger pigeons... You name it, I've tried it. What happens when The Warden changes her mind? Why won't they respond?!?!!

I hope you're older than me, you're in for a long life my friend.
So far on my list that won't respond:
Mazda Hatch
Mk3 Golf
Volvo 240dl Wagon

um, why do you have to have permission from her to buy a car?
It's not so much permission as it is endorsement. Some women look at cars especially "race" cars as the mistress. Something that will prevent you from spending time with them.
That's a pretty diverse list of cars.

Patience grasshopper. It's CL - best to not fall in love with anything in the ads - it's always a crapshoot whether the poster is a flake, car is real or someone beats you to it. The good news is that you're looking in Atlanta and it seems there are ridiculously cool, cheap cars that are getting listed there constantly. Take your girl on a very nice date in the meantime.
In reply to 914Driver:
I'd agree with you there. He always posts the most interesting craigslist finds, and those seem kind of ordinary.
My wife generally doesn't have a problem with my crazy projects. She says she'll always know that the other woman in my life is on jack stands in the garage
No to the 240DL
Maybe to the Mk3 Golf
berkeley Yes to the GLC (at a hundred bucks, you won't feel bad cutting a tunnel down the middle to accommodate the Miata drivetrain )

I thought you were looking for Minis on CL.
My girlfriend has always said she is behind cars, food and soccer in that order. And this is why she is awesome.
On topic. I never had any problems getting in contact with people on craigslist when I was looking at cars. I guess I was lucky.
Girlfriend? Why does she have any say in what you do anyway?
In "The Sopranos," Tony's wife wanted to divorce him. He didn't want a divorce so he engaged every divorce lawyer in town. Every time his wife talked to a lawyer, they had to back out citing conflict of interest.
Your girlfriend gave you "permission" ( and +1 on bravenrace's above post) but what you don't know is she talked to everyone selling a car in America and told them not to return your messages.
How do I know? I'm trying to give away a free 1983 SAAB 900 Turbo project car in the GRM 200X classified section and got the call yesterday.
I just saw a lotus europa for sale on the forum in albany.
just sayin'
lol
Girlfriend + Permission does not compute.
Craigslist. Worth every penny you spend on it ;)
CL is an exercise in frustration. Sift through dozens of terrible ads, find a few good ones, two answer their phones, one is already sold. I've just about thrown my computer out the window after spending an hour looking for some wheels. Every single person I called had sold them weeks, sometimes over a month ago. "OH yeah, I guess I should take that down". Please do.

around here, people tend to re-list at the minimum weekly if not every other day or so if their item hasn't sold. because of this, it is easy to figure out what has been sold and what hasn't. because of this, i don't bother responding to ads more than a week or maybe two old. i'll also sometimes do another search more specific to their title to see if they have been listing it for a while with no luck and the price steadily dropping
