CT or MA?!?!?!

New London or New Bedford? Why?

Dad got an work offer for both locations, which one and why? ANNDD GO!

I live in the middle of Rhode Island, just about halfway between both. My preference is New London. Reason? Exceptional lightly traveled rural 2-lane blacktops all over Eastern CT for driving enthusiasts, especially in the northeast "Quiet Corner" of the state, which is part of the Last Green Valley. Also, New London is closer to Lime Rock and Thompson. Thompson is re-opening their road course in the spring of 2014 and there should be plenty of track days. And in my opinion the vineyards in the area are better than in southeastern MA, especially Jonathan Edwards in Stonington. They're about the only New England vinyard using a high percentage of Napa Valley grapes, which allows them to produce some great red wines. There's also a fantastic brew pub in the old post office in Willimantic. (Just don't combine the wineries or the brew pub with the 2-lane blacktops).

I've lived in both... I prefer MA. Close enough to Boston and NYC to make daytrips, but (in Western MA, where I lived) still far enough away from Boston and NYC, because, Boston and NYC.

Also, the hiking, skiing, cycling, fishing, etc. in MA is fantastic.

+1 to this. I grew up 5(ish) miles from Lime Rock. Oh, the memories...

I lived across the river from New London twice. There was some decent biking roads and trails. It is an easy day trip to either NYC or Boston driving or on the train. New London is close to Mystic and a couple casinos for things to do locally.

The downside is that both places are in New England.

Don't know much about New Bedford to comment.

New London is only close to Lime Rock if you're comparing it to Old London.

New Bedford is 15 minutes from Providence, FWIW. Thus why Emeril has more of an RI accent than an MA accent.

New Bedford is not too far from me. There are some pretty rough spots in the city itself. Surrounding towns are decent but rural. On the other hand, the greatest burrito joint on the planet, No Problemo Taqueria, is in New Bedford. So, there's that.

I can vouch for the rural roads of eastern CT. It KILLED me to be in a pick up getting furniture... It also cooked the brakes in said truck

That said, my trip into CT from RI for furniture has been my only time in CT. Unfortunately I have not visited New Bedford in my time in MA.
