Tool is Prog Rock. Albeit a 1990's, darkened take on it, but Prog all the way.
Nu-Metal... I have an argument with a friend of mine who is a real Metal elitist all the time. He states that Nu-Metal is nothing more than a record label-generated term, and that it should be classified as Alternative Hard Rock. He does have a point, as many of those Nu-Metal bands really have nothing to do with Metal at all.
And before anyone asks, YES, Metal needs to be classified in sub-genres. There are so many different types that it will make your head spin, yet it's all different. It is not all the same. That would be like saying all cars are the same. A Camry and a Ferrari are not even close to the same thing.
And Steel Panther rules.
