Ok so I have been looking at guns all day and I saw this.

Anyone know if this is any good or a piece of junk. I like the idea of semi-auto like that plus .22 is cheap.
I guess I am wondering if Rock Island Armory's guns are any good.

I asked a local gun store about Rock Island Armory's 1911's and they said they are pretty good. As far as that particular model I do not know. Hope this helps a little if at all!
Go for it if you dig the "military" styling. As for me, at that price, I'd be eyeballing a Ruger 10/22.
I always look at the aftermarket parts available for the model: barrels, stocks, triggers, extended magazines......... gotta have extended magazines.
My friend bought a Mossberg "Plinkster" that looks like a M16...Thats was alot cheaper, used in good shape I think he got it for 100...

You can do more with a Ruger 10/22 it's basically the 95 civic of .22 rifles. Tons of aftermarket, hi cap magazines, and you can configire it to look like a number of different assault rifles.
As an alturnative you could get an AR15, and get a .22 converstion kit for it. Thats probably more then you are willing to spend though, but then again you could shoot either .223 or .22 and it would be a real AR not a mockup.

Spend the money and get the S&W MP 15-22 instead.
How do these gaping, oozing, canoes import such a lovely Font ?
Another vote for the Ruger 10/22.
Certainly can't go wrong with a 10/22, and with the aftermarket, you can end up with pretty much whatever you want. That said, by the time you make the spend for the aftermarket toys, you'd have what you'd start out with with the Smith & Wesson. Probably a silly reason to not like it, but the Rock Island looks like a toy to me.
Plus, the S & W looks more intimidating if someone trys to land a canoe in your thread.

I had a RIA Compact 1911 for awhile. It worked alright for the first several hundred rounds, but started having a lot of issues. I eventually sold it for a Glock 19. But RIA does have a decent reputation right now.
However I would ask, what makes you want that particular gun? It's a smaller company and an unproven design. You can get a 10/22, Marlin 60, Plinkster, and the 795 for that price. And if you start including bolt guns, the world is yours.
I have started looking at Ruger 10/22. I think I will get one if I decide to get a .22 rifle soon.

Just an example of parts available, here's the 10/22 page from Midway.... TONS of stuff. Kinda like aftermarket support for the SBC. I research the aftermarket before I pop on a gun JIC I wanna trick it out later... and for some reason I always do

[...and I don't care if it is dorky. I like the bullpup one.]
The one I like is from Ironwood designs, they do a Walther 2000 that is spot on out of a 10/22
They also do an AUG but I prefer the WA2000.

You're right, that's GORGEOUS!!!!
I've loved the WA2000 ever since I saw it in the Bond film. The $950 price is kind of steep, though....you could buy something a lot more impressive than a 10/22 for that kind of change.

True, but considering that it has been accuratized with a Lother walther barrel, etc and you pay that much or more for a target version of a 10/22 it is not too bad. Also it is a limited addition, they are only making 1000 of them if I remember right. The other 10/22 I like is the Krinker plinker that makes it look like a Krinkov, that is still $350 on top of the cost of a 10/22, but is quality stuff using some real Krinkov parts. I saw one in person at a gun show and they look better in person then on the website.

10/22 is the new standard by which all 22 long rifles are compared. It's hard (almost impossible) to go wrong with the Ruger 10/22. It's like a S&W revolver it just works.
Psssh... While there's more toys for the 10/22 (because it needs them), the Remington 597 is the better out of the box .22.

In general yes though there are some damn accurate 10/22 rifles right out of the box. I have issues with the 597 because basically I can't build it up to how I would want especially the magnum version that I have.

I have two of these GSG-5SD. Not as inexpensive as the one your looking at, but just as tacticool. Have run the cheap lead Remington (don't do, it leads up like a mother berkleyer) to CCI Stingers with little problem. Since it looks like a HK MP5, there is plenty of aftermarket out there in the airsoft community. The only problem right now is magazines in that the only maker is GSG and depending on where you buy them they can be pricey.
Good luck on the GSG-5. Due to copyright issues, no more are being imported, IIRC.
Otherwise I do like them.
