Do any of you guys know anything about direct vent gas fireplaces? I am slowly remodeling my house and want to replace my old leaky fireplace with a sealed direct vent unit. House is 30yrs old and currently have a cheap builders grade sheetmeal wood burning fireplace that was converted to gas log at some point. The thing leaks air really bad and I would like to replace with modern direct vent unit. I want to install myself but I am not really sure what brands I should be looking at. Also I'm not sure where to get one. I would prefer to buy from a supply house or lumber yard (or online?) rather than pay full pop retail from the local specially fireplace store. I just don't know who typically supplies these things to builders, contractors, etc. Any insight would be great, thanks!

Builders rarely install them themselves- liability.

Those specialty fireplace stores usually have commercial sales divisions who deal direct with contractors. That’s who contractors usually buy from.
