Is it a pain to turn on? Do you have to try multiple times?
I thought it was just the comcrap remote, but smart phone, tv remote, and comcrap, it usually takes 2 or 3 times to come on.
It'll start, the Vizio logo comes up, then nothing until you shut it off and turn it back on. Sometimes, if you keep the remote pointed at the TV until the logo comes up, it'll start first time.
Am I alone here, or is this a common issue?

Don't have that issue, but mine will randomly restart. Real pain when you're using it to watch Netflix. Or anything.

Hmm... not really, although it does take awhile to turn on after I hit the button. About 2 seconds before I get the "V" and about 10 seconds before it actually turns on. I don't use the "smart" features, although I do have internet plugged into it. Need to work on that...
Mine isn't a smart TV, but it usually doesn't want to turn off. On occasion, I have to unplug the damn thing to shut it off.

I've let it sit as long as a minute after the logo comes up and it goes black, then it would shut itself off.
Doesn't restart, thankfully.
Toyman, that's odd. My first day with it it didn't want to shut off, but then I found out it was doing updates. No problems going off unless it's updating now.
Still almost 6 months after purchase, it costs more in stores than I paid for it, so I guess thats worth the annoyance.
The vizio on and off commands from the remote are the same signal codes, it just toggles between them every time it gets either command. So, if it is starting slowly and you impatiently hit the on button again the tv will instead turn off.
Very few non-vizio remotes work well with that and only if programmed correctly.

I have two vizios. One smart and one dumb. The smart one does the random restarting, but turns on just fine.
i have a Vizio smart tv that i bought 2 years ago... the tv part works fine for a cheap Wal Mart tv but the remote that came with it is garbage and my Dish Hopper remote worked about 100 times better than it did... now i've got Mediacom cable with the Tivo receiver, and that remote can only be programmed to turn the tv on and off and control the volume but it works better than the piece of E36 M3 remote that came with it. i used to have my phone programmed to control my tv via an app and it worked better than the included remote- it would instantly turn on and off via the phone.
i use the tv to watch youtube videos from time to time, and other than taking a loooong time to boot the youtube app it works pretty good, but i use my Galaxy S5 to play videos via the youtube app on that so i don't know how well the Vizio remote works for that..
No problems with mine, though I've noticed that it runs netflix must more slowly than say, a PS4 or XBONE.

I have several. I agree that they are slow to turn on, but I've had no real problems. My kids use Netflix, so we usually have the Vizio remote around and use that to turn the TV on. I can also turn it on with the universal remote that came with the cable box. It always works, but sometimes I wonder if the TV got the signal while I'm waiting.
Yep, same here. If that's happening to yours, I'd say something is wrong with it. We bought ours about 2 or 3 months ago, it's still fairly new. Using our DirecTV remote, it turns on just fine. Like others said, it's a bit slow to come on, but it's consistent. Ours will do what I guess you could call a "reset" every once in a while, but it's about 2 or 3 seconds long.

It sounds like this is a Vizio thing, I was just making sure I didn't have a bad TV.
It's done this since new, which is the week before the superbowl(which I still think is a misleading name) but I've wondered if it might be my soundbar in the way blocking a signal.
Has anyone figured out how to jailbreak or unlock the TV? it would be amazing to install an ad blocker, I might even be convinced to pay a bounty for a good one.
Go into setup menu and see if there is a BIOS update available?
Or look it up on the Sony website BIOS update by model.
You may need a USB flash drive to transfer file to tv.
I have a Vizio smart tv, 32". Zero problems here, but it is a less-expensive brand. I can imagine quality control might differ greatly between units.
