On the other hand, my wife sat on the plastic trim on the side of drivers seat in her 9-3 and broke it off. I called the local SAAB dealer, which sells stuff that costs more than my house, expecting to hear some outragous number. It was $32. Not too bad in my book.
But then again, when we got the car it was missing one of the bolts that hold the direct ignition cassette, they wanted $4 for a 3/4 inch bolt, ouch.

I would've upgraded and gone with the direct ignition CD instead of the cassette.

I thought about that, but it was on backorder from Sweden.
I dropped off an old Forester with a CEL to the Subie dealer to be diagnosed. They called back promptly to let me know that the "air meter" was bad(I assumed they meant the MAF). I was quoted $210 replacement out the door, and figured that was reasonable.
I collected the car and paid the bill. I was shocked to read on the invoice that by "air meter" they meant rear 02 sensor. $120 labor to replace. Holy God.
MOPAR parts,
Ordered ONE mopar performance oil pump spring. Tiny spring replaces stock one, a little stiffer, ups the oil pressure a bit before the bypass opens. TWO dowel pins, the pins that center the head on the block before everything gets tightened. Left with a bill of $40+...
Three quarts of Castrol 10-50 synthetic oil for a transmission, available only from a BMW parts distributor. $52... Ouch.
It's only money, can't take it with you.........
Maf for a 99 infiniti G20 - $620 infiniti price...advance-o-napa-zone ~$400... its smaller than my fist!!!
Out of pocket to correct a broken bone in my hand - $180...something is wrong here
When I had my '78 datsun 620, I was constantly shocked that nissan still had parts for it, and none of the stuff that I needed was terribly expencive. This was only about 5 years ago btw. All OEM, rear main seal $32, pan gasket $20, head gasket $45, VC gasket $12, set of shifter likage bushings $8. Man I miss that truck.
My appartment doesn't have a trash can, only a trash bag sitting on the floor...
Why?
I went to walmart, and for a basic, no frills trashcan made of $1.25 cents of plastic they wanted almost $30.
Ever go to Toyota to check out parts prices? The next time i hear someone who owns a Toyota say that they "Will never own a BMW because parts are expensive" i'm going to kick them where it hurts.
$297 for a bumper cover. $267 APIECE for fenders. $140 per sun visor. $32 for a fan control knob. $127 for passenger front swaybar bracket. (it's about 4" long.)
They seem to kill on the "small" things, but it's actaully fairly reasonable prices on stuff like... a full 3sgte longblock, or a 2jzgte longblock. It's realyl strange.

Find yourself a Dollar Tree or a Dollar Store nearby and stop shopping at Walmart, there are better places to shop.
The rubber shifter boot for my Toyota pickup was $68. I got a custom leather shift boot and ebrake boot for the miata for less.
