OK I was looking at the new Macan and honestly I am in love but I figured to bring myself back down to earth and feel like a completely piece of E36 M3 in my station in life I decided to build a 918.
I got over the sticker shock of $845,000 before options. I knew what I was looking at.
Then I went to the first page and was looking at paint choices. I chose Liquid Metal Silver.
$63,000!!!!! for paint!!!!!!
PAINT!!!!!!!
Ah, but you can get the Martini wrap for $0
Actually, to be fair the paint is just about the only thing they charge for.

ummmm, no. It is just one of the few options. Now in your defense some of the really expensive Porsche-isms are regular car cheap on this thing. Bunch of <$1K options.
But the seats I think I speced at $32K Wheels were $26K, speed bump clearance feature to make it a street car $10K, Electric heating $6K (although in retrospect I have no idea why I choose that living in Southern LA), Carbon Fiber interior $7,500.
I did get a free cup holder!!! http://www.porsche-code.com/PFCXY358
The Martini livery is not free. It is on the Weissach package, which is another $80K on the top of the base.

Hmm. Wonder what the depreciation is like on a liquid silver rear end.
That was a fun waste of time.

I looked at the link Flight Service posted...for about 5 seconds, which was long enough to confirm that the paint alone is worth more than any car I care to buy. Even when I daydream about winning the lottery, it doesn't include million dollar plus cars.

I know the uber rich don't think like normal folk, but I just don't see how I could maintain my cool knowing how easy a scratch could berkely up my Sixty. Three. Thousand. Dollar. Paintjob.
I think that the uber rich think the same, they just move the decimal point over a few places. Instead of having a $300k house with a $9k toy car, they have a $30m Manhattan apartment with a $900k toy car.
...and at GRM we live in $35k houses with $350 toy cars....

Pfft, houses involve wanting to live where you live.
Also, where the hell can you find a 35k house?
