We used to have someone living next door who was dealing, "customers" would drive by and honk (they honk a LOT) to arrange a meetup. The dealer would then leave, meet up with them and come back two minutes later. This honking behavoir continues even today, although the dealer has long since moved out. sigh
In reply to cwh:
I had the same experience, ecept the deals were in my apt bldg. Lots of noise, building raided twice...and then a retied NYC cop moved in. With a blue Crown Vic "undercover" car as his daily driver.
All activity stopped within a monh.
If he moves out, I'll get a used Crown Vic to keep the status quo.

We used to have this in my neighborhood a lot. Calling the cops really helps.
Even if you know the deal will be long over by the time the cops get there...there are benefits. For one, the dealers and customers see the cops rolling around and think of other places to do their deals. Another is that the cops will eventually be able to justify stepping up patrolling that area.
Our town (it's a small town, this may not work everywhere) sent a cop to one of our little "block gatherings" and told us what we could do to help make things better. Calling when we thought something underhanded was going on was at the top of the list. Don't feel like you're bothering the cops calling them all the time...that's their job, and calling them is yours.

Good answer. I went through this when I first bought my house, there were crack houses all over the place in my neighborhood, including one next door. We got organized with a block club, got involved with the police, had meetings with the apartment landlords and got them to screen their tenants, etc. It worked.
Yes...Landlords get REALLY tired of getting calls about their scumbag tennants. The problem is...the landlords usually are aware of the fact that they have scumbag tennants (who else will pay more than market rate for a place that won't pass a code inspection?).
We had one neighbor that actually BOUGHT two houses (one on either side of her...owned by the same landlord) just to rid the neighborhood of the dealers in one of them.
For me...the drugs are really the least of my worries. It's all the other stupid, inconsiderate, dangerous, ignorant BS that comes along with them. So...yeah...it's the drugs I don't like ;).
