Enjoy your daily job?

Manufacturing engineer with a long-ish commute.  If I could work from home some of the time, avoid the accounting department, and never have to deal with the corporate bullE36 M3, I would really like my job.  I like the work for the most part.  I despise the bureaucracy.  Most of my responsibilities revolve around welding and machining, and I absolutely look into that stuff when I'm not at work.  I think if I won the lottery I would leave my job, but I'd almost definitely start a small machine shop, even if it lost money every year.  I've already got a small farm that just tries to break even at this point.  Work definitely doesn't scare me away.  I just get worn slick by the BS.

I could get up and walk out right now.  The last two years have been that miserable.

I work retail and interface with the general public, so no, I don't like my job. This is what I imagine Hell is like.

I enjoy my job, I really do.

But as others have said, if I were to hit the lottery I'd be out of here so fast I wouldn't even turn my damn computer off. 

If I won the Powerball tomorrow, I would still keep my job.  I love it.  I'm important, I'm autonomous, I'm respected, and I'm happy with the work I do.

I would likely donate a chunk of money to the theater to hire help so I didn't have to spend 60 hours a week to do my job.  That is my big issue.  Being a non-profit theater, they pay sucks and the time involvment is ridiculous.  I had considered quitting last season but we got a new board chair and a new executive director that has really turned things around.  Our board treasurer also decided to resign and he was the last block to my happiness here.  He REFUSED to release money.  He was scroogier than Ebenezer himself.

I'm a theater technical director.  I meet hundreds of interesting people, I get to build sets, lights, and sound that truly fit both my engineering/building talent as well as equally satisfying my creative/artistic side.  I'm passionate about the mission of live theater, the benefits are great, and the smile I (often anonymously) put on people's faces is such a high.

My wife would work even if she hit the lottery. She works with the mentally disabled and really does love her job.

I don't mind my job. I'm overqualified and have been offered better money but I don't have too kill myself and really like my boss who owns the place. That being said if I had the choice I would travel around drag racing and never come back too this place. If I didn't have too deal with the customers I would likely stay. Not many quick lubes have the tooling in the back bay this one does, or the 74 nova too make fun of every day

I think it really has to do with how well your job aligns with your passions.

I made $2000/wk working 40 hours as a service writer/manager for a transmission repair shop and hated it.

Now I make more like $500/wk working 60 hours as a tech director and I look forward to working every day.  I will come to work on my days off just to have coffee with my coworkers and tinker in the shop.

I was in the same boat as bigeyedfish, minus the farm.

Took a job teaching shop 3 1/2 yrs ago for about 2/3 the $$ and 0% of the BS and haven't looked back.

Today, I worked with a high school robotics team, designed and built a camera mount for the AV department and built a hovercraft from a leaf blower, plywood, pipe insulation, plastic sheeting and duct tape with a team of freshman engineering students.

The students just took it for it's first drive, err flight, err, well what ever it is hovercraft do.

Yeah, I like my job. A lot. 

I like my job, but would quit if I won the lottery. I'd have to do something every day, So i'd probably go work for an Anti-Bullying charity..   maybe thats what I should do now.

Love my job. 

The pay isn't huge but my bills are paid and we're comfortable.

It has allowed me to travel, see amazing events, drive incredible automobiles and meet interesting people.

Can't think of anything I'd rather do. 

If I won the lottery, I'd still do what I do, I'd just do it a bit differently.

I like my job, but I won't have any trouble walking away from it when I retire.

I worked with a driven sales guy who ended up owning the company and the building we leased. He was in at 6am until 6pm every day and most every Saturday until noon.  This job was pretty much his whole life for 37 years.  He had a nice box of cash in his basement.

At age 60 he realized the big guys owned the industry and sold the company to them.  At age 62 he called me back to take his accounts and he retired.  He stayed on as a consultant but at this point he’s enjoying golf, grand kids, beer, and fishing.  He walked away.  We rarely hear from him.  

I truly like my job.  I try to do it well and generally find it fulfilling and challenging.  I do work related things on my own time to improve myself and the results of my efforts because I like my job and feel a responsibility to do it well.  If I won the lottery or otherwise was financially independent, I do not think I would continue to work this job.  I would probably do something part-time with less responsibility.

I really enjoy working by myself, for myself as a plumber.  There are lots of days where I'd rather be working than being at home.  Last couple of days I have been installing a heater from the ceiling of a golf course maintenance building.  Its been a lot of fun.  I had a job in a warehouse for many years that was absolute torture.  Maybe that experience has helped me appreciate just what I have going now.  Last couple of years have been extremely busy so it has cut down on my time playing with cars.  I'm starting to resent that, but hey, I'm the boss.  I can take time off any time I want for anything I want.  Today is going to be nice.  Have an inspection at 8am.  Think I'll blow off the rest of the day and do some body work.... unless the phone rings with an emergency.

I like the hours of my job, the money that it gives to me to do things etc. The work is fine. A little boring at points.

But if something offered the same benefits but better pay I would be gone in a sec. Especially if it was close enough to cycle to work.
