Holy E36 M3. Better than expected. That is one tricky motherberkeleyer of a 4-part harmony on the chorus.
Props due to the kings of the genre. "You shook me" is truly a better song in bluegrass form. The vocal "stylings" are annoyingly over the top on this one...but still:

"Bluegrass" of Fields of gold by Sting (these guys are some of the best musicians ever. The Banjo player deserves to be in the elite group of musicians/composers such as Motzart or Hendrix or Ellington).

Those were great!
So cool how we're starting to hear the banjo re-enter the mainstream quietly. I love this stuff- raised on bluegrass in norcal. Was the "weird" kid when I walked into my 3rd grade class in 1984 and said my favorite type of music was bluegrass. It's not #1 any more, but I love these covers.
Problem with bluegrass is that so many are stuck on the gospel aspect of it, and haven't pushed it- Sam Bush opened that door 25 years ago and took plenty of guff, but helped keep the style alive.
Banjo is badass, that is all. Always liked it, always will. Then again, the faster the music the better IMO, and banjo is pretty stinkin' fast.

Just saw Trampled by Turtles in Des Moines last Sunday. Best classification I can make of they're live performance is speed metal bluegrass. Every time you thought the couldn't go faster, they did!

I'm pretty sure they were a converted punk band.
As long we linking to alternate versions of metal here is one of my favorites: Smooth Jazz
Sirius radio has an excellent bluegrass channel. They play a decent mix of everything, from Bill Monroe to 'newgrass'. Here's a few different groups worth checking out, depending on what you like.
Cadillac Sky (sadly no longer together)
Flatt Lonesome, a band of young folk
I was listening to the country station most of the weekend, and Keith Urban uses the banjo quite a bit in his music as well.
