It's fun. I played in college. I have a friend who has played in a league for 20 years. He travels all over for it.

Glo in the dark helps, even on sunny days. What I'd really like is something like the disc finder, but cheap. Then I could just listen for the beeping.
Chrispy, can't say how it will go with your son, but mine for some reason mellows out as soon as we start tossing the discs, and we have had many rather serious or significant conversations out there just tossing discs and walking around. In many ways, this a major reason I play it with him.
Keep in mind, DG is a retardedly cheap hobby. You can get a putter and a driver for like 10 bucks total, used. Most courses are free. Don't cost nothin' to walk. Bring a water, go have some fun. I know we're all cheap buckets here, this is high on the cheap quotient.
The course is free to play and they do have rental discs for $5. I may go out there with SWMBO and try it out. I hadn't thought of going to Play It Again Sports for the discs. The park is about 3 miles from my house so hopping over there to play would be easy. It's well maintained from what I saw, freshly cut grass and all.

I am down. Yeah, it's been pretty damn hot lately.
I played a few times back in a past life. I still have a couple discs laying around. Might have to take another shot at it they have a few courses close by.

If you like it- I got some plastic I'll let you have dirt cheap. Its the last of my personal stash. Should be enough for you and the wife. Lightweight stuff, most under 170.
played a few times both with a proper disc golf set and just a random Frisbee I had.. you can buy sets for cheap at used sports stores (play it again or the like) or ebay... but even new they aren't very expensive... different weights and shapes for long, mid, short game...
the biggest thing is going along with a friend... so spend the extra on a second set :)
I've never done it but I have friends who do. They can sit for hours talking about which courses they like, how one brand of disc flies compared to another brand and how that plays into their strategy. I just zone out. I never knew it could be so involved. Seems like it would be fun and cheap to just play for fun though.
I think that's how they feel when I start talking cars and motorsport.
