If there's a gambling gene I don't have it, frugal and casinos don't mix. If I found it entertaining I might be able to justify pissing away small amounts of money. But I don't and I can't.

*Posted from casino Niagara where PW has been playing her favourite poker machine for 20 minutes and is up about 75%. She's smart and cashes out if she doubles her (my) money,  but otherwise plays until it's gone.

Well, we stayed about an hour and she ended up tripling her money. So I got my $20 back and now she's buying me breakfast.

Draft Kings has been legalized in my state recently and you can not get away from there advertising. It is everywhere.

I am getting so sick of gambling being forced in to every aspect of my life I am coming to truly hate it.  One of my employees kids (they are 12) commented to us about it and now all his friends are now gambling cause it is cool.

This is a really bad thing that is happening.

Ugh, Draft kings. At least with the old casinos on native land the money was going to something you could visibly see.

Last time I was in my local casino, it was because I had forgotten my birthday again and my family wanted to take me somewhere. For supposedly the more high-end casino than the others, everything looked like it had been rubbed with ham; I think it's because they cosmoline everything to make cleaning the cigarette residue and nicotine tars off easier. We each only spent $20, and were out within 2 hours- but the people watching was something else. We're in our 30s and we were the youngest people there, I swear the air was thick with despair and not tobacco smoke.

I have great memories gambling with friends and family tho; the last family memory I have with my Grandmother, was we were all trapped in our vacation house because of this torrential downpour at the lakeside. Our family didn't really know what to do other than hangout- for once everyone had their belongings, which was shocking- so cards and drinks came out and we began playing for just what was in our wallets. We forgot that grandma D, our Matriarch, had been playing poker with the community of her assisted living facility for neigh-on 6 years routinely- she made $240 off of all of us.

It got even funnier when the next day our plans were rapidly going ploin-shaped despite the rain stopping. One of my brightest memories of my grandmother was her tapping her fingers together excitedly asking "Are we going to play cards?" again at that news.

It's cool to see different perspectives on the whole gambling scene. If the gambling gene is a thing, sounds like it might've skipped you, and that's totally okay!   PW seems to have a smart strategy going on at Casino Niagara. Playing the favorite poker machine, cashing out on a win – that's the way to do it!

But what would anyone even spend all those winnings on? Might be enough to buy a canoe, but not a yacht. Maybe stock up on some extra salty canned meat? Oar maybe a few paddles for a canoe?

Oh wow... delayed canoe... Casino spamming must pay well... or the bots are getting even more sophisticated...

I also didn't get the gambling gene, other than the occasional lottery tickets - for the aforementioned entertainment/dreaming factor. Plus - someone eventually wins.

PA has started to turn into a mini-Nevada... my local 7-11 has slots along the front wall.

Sports betting advertisements have become so annoying it makes me never want to participate.

About a month ago I jokingly said to some friends I should start a PA "skill games" casino.

Sure enough, there are 2 of them now where I used to live. Not just a handful of machines in the store, actual storefronts just filled with the slot machines that aren't slot machines.

Makes me wonder what the owners of the bars with cherry master machines who paid ridiculous fines for having them are doing/thinking these days.

We don't have any of those yet, but I'd guess it's only a matter of time something like that rents one of the store fronts in the shopping center near me.  There have been rumors of a riverfront casino getting built a few miles from me, but so far it hasn't happened (yet).

I am not as involved in it as I was previously, but in the charitable gaming world, some private equity group has gone and bought out all of the manufacturers and distributors of gaming supplies for bingos - yes, things like bingo paper and pull tabs but also things like electronic card minding devices and electronic pulltabs.  To be abundantly clear, this is an electronic pulltab machine:

What this outfit wanted from us - a school - was to find a place to rent a storefront or some space in an existing business so that they could place 10-20 of those "electronic pulltab machines".  We would have to have a volunteer sit there with the machines whenever they were open for business - we can't pay that person because it's charitable gaming.  The PE conglomerate would take care of servicing the machines and everything and would just cut us a check for a percentage of the profits.   Basically, they'd just be opening a mini-casino using our ability to get a charitable gaming license.  We turned them down flat.

Slimy as hell.

I've been to Vegas a few times since we have an increasing amount of friends that live there. Some study, some work in Casinos.

Every time I say I will gamble (something like a $20) just to say I've done it, and every time I either forget to do it, or can't be bothered to sit down in front of a machine instead of spending time with our friends.

Love the atmosphere and walking around the casinos, seeing people partying - everything looks amazing as long as you don't stay in one spot too long. And strangely, good food options that don't break the bank if you follow the locals.

ALWAYS tip your waitress for your free drink!
