I keep a 12 oz. jar of instant around just in case, costs about $6. I couldn't find one at the store but they did have 8oz. for $8. What? A big can of Chock Full o' Nuts (ground coffee of choice) has almost doubled!
Are the bean pickers unionizing or something? Or like gas, is the price going up just because they can?

I too have noticed the price of coffee rising. I think the reality is that food prices in general are creeping up. A good example of how fuel prices drive the prices of pretty much every product. Everything in your local grocery store arrives by truck and for some items like coffee; shipping and trucking.
Understood, but why is everything not doubling like coffee?
I get a 2.5lb bag of beans for $10.99... same as always
Because there was a huge drought in Columbia.

Because we don't grow it in the 'lower 48' or the 'upper 1' and coffee has to be shipped in.
Man, they could really screw us on this deal. I mean, what if they start an OPEC deal with coffee? We'd be in tough shape. Think we're in trouble without oil? Wait 'till there's no coffee. Country would grind to a halt. Productivity would plummet.

Ok, so there was a drought in Columbia that caused coffee proces to skyrocket. And there has been unrest in the Ivory Coast that caused chocolate prices to sky rocket. There were floods in Austrailia and bad weather in China that have caused wheat prices to rise. There is ethanol in our gas so corn prices have risen. Unrest in the middle east and a growing worldwide middle class so oil prices are up. Global warming could be to blame as well.
These things may be true, but the real problem here is that we've sat by and allowed a private banking cartel to have complete control over our money supply and the monetary base has tripled in the past several years. Of course everything is going to cost more when it is priced in dollars since the value of a dollar is being intentiaonally destroyed.
Look at the price of any of these commodities in gold and you will see that they are not really changing much - it is the value of the dollar that is dropping like a rock. The truth is that there is a decreased demand for oil and the price still has risen.

Your profile says you are 29 years, two months old. I started drinking coffee at 29 years, ten months old, which strangely corresponded with the birth of my daughter. Enjoy the remainder of your youth.
I have never bought even a cup of the stuff, but my understanding is that people like having gasoline, but they NEED coffee!

So true. If the Terrorists were smart they would target coffee and tobacco. Our Military would grind to a halt.

E36 M3, I don't need coffee, I happen to really like coffee.
That's true actually, same with energy drinks, I never really need them but I like most of the Monster flavors and drink them quite a bit.
Thinking about it, I'm lucky I have a very high tolerance to caffiene or I'd be dead.

I must be an old fart then, I averaged 5 cups a day last week.
At least that stuff was free.
Fun fact about coffee: If you go to a big banquet of some sort, and they ask if you want coffee, they will then ask decaf or regular. Well, your choice really doesn't matter; they only make decaf!

Redbull gives you wings, and at 3$/can, is still cheaper than Staribou.

Redbull tastes like piss in a can. I can understand people not liking coffee, it is bitter and it does take some getting used to... I cannot understand people liking redbull. yuck.
Fun fact:
Most people are exhausted/fatigued because of chronic dehydration.
Put down the coffee and pick up a bottle of water.

Monster, rockstar, whatever. Monster in particular has a new one, it's an Arnie Palmer blend and it's delicious. And usually on sale at some gas station or another.

Have you done double blind testing of Red Bull and piss in a can?
I wonder how many people actually know caffeine does not give you energy. It blocks the brain from feeling fatigue. That means that however much alert you were before the coffee... is pretty much how alert you are after it. You just can't rest properly.
