I didn't want to hijack Octavius thread on summer road trip with his son. Thought I'd share someone else's Adventure. A buddy of mine is taking his teenage son on a road trip. Left Greenwood Mississippi day before yesterday headed to St Louis to pick up Route 66 and drive to California.
Doing it in style in a vintage Corvette like Todd and Buzz from the original TV show. Bad part is car has no air and is black!
First stop a drive-in theater in rural Missouri.
Nice! There are a lot of Rt 66 things here in OK. I think at this point it still has more miles of the original highway still active than any other state.
Has to make sure to stop in El Reno for the home of the onion burger. An OK depression era burger that used the cheap onions to make the expensive beef go further.
A bit off RT 66 in OKC, but if they haven't been, they should really take some time to stop by the memorial.....even if they don't have time to go in the museum and look around.
I highly recommend the memorial in OKC. Last time I stopped was early on a Sunday morning.
So, is that a 1958, 1959, or a 1960?

I highly recommend fried chicken in Pittsburg, KS.
If they can replicate this pose from the TV show, that would be awesome.
Oh they are taking the slow route.
If they want something fancy, go to VAST 50th floor of the Devon Tower in OKC. Fantastic food and service and a great view at night.
visiting car and vintage gas station museums along the way
Looks like a fun trip.

I just happened to watch that particular episode of the show a couple nights ago on Amazon Prime - it was a pretty dark episode both literally and figuratively. They were in a small southern town where a lot of bad stuff was going on, and the whole thing either took place on gloomy overcast days or at night. (Interestingly, George Kennedy was in the episode as well in a relatively minor part.)
Heh. I have that Nelson Riddle tune in my head now. Which is actually pretty cool! Looks like a great trip.
Ah, but Bobby Troup's song is much better, although it was never used in the TV show! Especially a Chuck Berry-esque version. I like Asleep At The Wheel, it's almost their theme song.
I've even been to Winona.

What fried chicken are you referring to? I went to college there and the only fried chicken place i could remember was Bo's One Stop at the gas station on 4th at the bypass, which did have very good chicken.
EDIT: nevermind, i forgot about the whole Chicken Mary's and Chicken Anne's dispute. I always preferred the dirty, greasy fried chicken joints so i wasn't much of a fan of either of them.
That's a Horch 853 front and center in that museum.
And it's been to Pebble Beach.
Impressive.

Definitely not a 1958. I can't really tell the difference between a '59 and '60, but I'm guessing 1960.
My buddy on this trip owns a chain of convenience store gas stations. That's why he's so interested in all the gas station museums. I think he's going to fly home and have the car shipped back to Mississippi. The rich are different than you and I, they have money. Lol
The vette is a 1960 per owner.
I just flew into Albuquerque yesterday and met the family. We hit the wigwam hotel yesterday and the Grand Canyon today. Tomorrow is Irvine.
I started my Vegas Trip last month by spending a couple of days in Williams, AZ and staying at the Grand Canyon Hotel. I only stayed a couple of days but I would love to retire to that little town.
Looks like a dream trip!

Doing it in style in a beautifully restored 1960 Corvette. Thus far they have had zero trouble car wise.
