NC v8 with an LS6 would scratch that itch.... and probably not make many wives happy in traffic.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. Everything she didn't want, 4 door, black exterior, black interior. But it is damn good looking.

She is considering this or a 335i. She did drive a 335d and was impressed by the power it had. Not sure if an estimated 36mpg will sway her though. I also got her to drive an '07 650i. Damn is that a nice car. Regardless, it is her commute and her call, plus she puts up with my endless projects so she deserves this.

It was at the center of the six cars and got hit 3 times and probably bumped the car in front of her 3 times as well and she drove away. This car was a rear-ender magnet though. She had 2 previous hits from younger drivers on Bruce B Downs when she lived in Tampa. This is the 3rd major impact for the car and it has already had over $10K of work done to it. None of these accidents were her fault and she thinks drivers may have had a microsecond confusion (whatever) between the red car/brake light. We do have decent insurance (go USAA) so we are working on this.

I was T-Boned in one by a drunk doing close to 100 mph and walked away from it. Brother in the passenger seat was fine as well. Unbelievable accident, really like the beetle.

Wow. When I was into the Mk.2 scene (back when the cars were new) we used to be amazed at some of the hits those little cars could take. Glad to hear VW hasn't screwed that stuff up like they've done in other areas.

I have pictures of it somewhere. The rims folded up underneath the car, the engine and the mounts moved back three inches.

But all the doors opened the sunroof would open but not close tightly and every single airbag in the car went off. The person who hit me was in a classic car and they were COMPLETELY destroyed.

Drunk in a classic? IMO, that's two crimes, not just one. What car?

In reply to EastCoastMojo:

Thank you. Me too. I'm amazed at wearymicrobe's story too. The safety aspect of the Beetle is not to be dismissed.

We just got back from a drive and my first drive of the car. First impressions... Although the ride is fairly stiff the comfort of the seats makes up for it. These seats are amazing, bolstered well, great lumbar support and infinitely adjustable. The power of the V8 is impressive but very tractable in normal driving. The exhaust note is right in line with what I like and when the second intake opens up at 3400 rpm the sound is glorious. You do really have to mash the throttle for it to launch past normal driving mode but when it goes it really goes. This is by far the most powerful car I have driven and I am excited about possibly learning more about its capabilities.

On the way home we passed a wreck with a car off the road and on it's side and leaning up against a palm tree. Really hard to tell in the dark what happened or even what type of car it was. Lots of officers on the scene and nobody seemed too anxious so hopefully the driver was ok.

We still have to decide what we are going to do but this car has some serious OMFG capabilities.

67 K code mustang. Its actually a terrible/horrible story as I sold my 67 K code to buy the beetle as my insurance company would no longer cover it for a DD when I was 18.

My 67 was destroyed a week after my accident in the rain when the buyer spun and put it into a tree killing her passenger and paralyzing her from the waist down.

You seem to have bad luck with this- didn't your viper do something similar?

Also to hobiecr- I cheated a little. I found a program that ran all my requirements down, including HP. Turns out the GTR (my original guess that never got posted) wasn't quite available on 08, making the only "rice" option (read:Japanese) the IS-F, at least that carried that kinda horsepower.

When you have had as many cars as I have it happens.

So last viper killed its new owner and his wife two days into ownership. My supercharged S2000 was stolen from its new owner spun in the rain near my folks house and was cut in half. Found out through the grape vine that my SRT-10 truck I had ended up stolen found in Mexico with bulletholes. My 65 Shelby was used as bait in some sort of embezzlement scheme, got to see that one news.

Fun times.
