Always enjoyed his books. "Read" a lot of them on audio during my various commutes over the years. Alos read a few on the page in that time. He will be missed.

I initially liked his books but became bored with them. They were too formulaic and it was annoying how he put himself in every story.
Interesting, I literally just picked this up this morning on a whim. Haven't read a Cussler book in years.
When I visited home back in 92 on leave from the Army I was reading a brand new novel called Sahara. It was my first Dork Pitt adventure and I thought it was pretty cool. I was talking with my step-father about it as he was a working author at the time. He laughed at the name "Dirk Pitt" and said hero names shouldn't both be one syllable like that and the author must be a hack.
Just a reminder that this thread is a year old - Clive died last year. I was hoping to see more booksbu his cowriters from his notes and ideas, at least by his son Dirk, but none so far that I know of.

Yeah, I was just about to point out that this happened a year ago.
Didn't even realize he had passed. Really unfortunate - as I travel a lot I would also grab one of his books for the trip. They kept me entertained and kept the screen time down.
In several books he wrote himself into a short cameo appearance, sort of like Hitchcock did in his films. Never as a major character.

He usually functioned as a deus ex machina, to bail the heroes out when all seemed lost. And usually the characters remarked that he looked really familiar, and then would forget his name almost immediately after parting ways, saying they couldn't remember his name but it was something odd. I found it pretty amusing.
