Well I have been looking for a new plinking rifle for awhile so I had two decent .22 rifles so my girlfriend and me could both go out shooting together.

A couple weeks ago I went to my local gun shop and he had a nice little Marlin Glenfield Model 80G with a BSA scope mounted. He wanted $140 for the gun but realized he had not tested yet. Well he took it in his bathroom, with ear protection, and test fired it. It fired just fine but it would not eject the spent shell. He said he would work on it and call me when it was fixed.

Well fast forward to today and I stopped by to see if had made any progress on the gun. Turns out he hadn't even had time to work on it yet. We did a little talking and I bought the gun for $50 knowing I would have to fix it. I got home and gave it a quick look and confirmed the pin that knocks the shell free was lined up directly with the back edge of the mag. I popped the scope off, grabbed the needle nose pliers and bent the pin over slightly. Now the rifle kicks the shells a good 5-6 feet off to the side. Gave it a wipe down and put it back together. Girlfriend wants to take it out tomorrow and try it.

Cool thing is the rifle chambers short, long and long rifle ammo.

Nicely done. (I'm a 10/22 man, though

Well this is to accompany my 10/22. Funny thing is both of my .22s are older than me, this one is from the early 60's and my 10/22 is from '76.

$50?

good score period. I love bolt action rifles. For some reason a bolt action or lever action is just more satisfying to shoot. I guess it has to do with my muzzleloader roots. If the shooting doesn't involve some form of work, It ain't worthwhile..

I'm in the $50 club, too. I bought my 10/22 off of my buddy who needed cash. It's a Stainless/Laminate Carbine. I've had it for almost 13 years. It's currently in pieces for fun.

Let's see.. find an item you want at a fair price.. get it for about a third of that price due to disrepair.

Fix it at no cost using tools at hand, and enjoy.

If that ain't grassroots, I'll kiss your.......

Great score!

Yep I wish my Cutlass was as easy of a fix as this thing was

I can't wait to take it out tomorrow. More than likely take a couple boxes of ammo out and not come home until its all gone. Might take some of my subsonic stuff out to see how quiet it is out of this thing...long barrel, bolt action so no noise escaping there...

I might have to get a small game tag this year...

Nice score. I already have 2 .22s(10/22, ithaca single shot lever) and I'm sort of on the look out for a lever repeater.

Anything about that seem strange? Whaddaya shoot it into? The toilet? The wall? The floor?

I've been in several indoor shooting ranges, but none of them had a medicine cabinet in the range..

This. What exactly did you shoot at?

I'll cop to shooting a toilet once, but it was in the middle of a field.

Wow.

I have a couple of 10/22's, and a pair of Ithica single shot levers. I am also looking for a lever repeater (Winchester 94/22).

Spooky.

No no, you use a shotgun to unclog toilets. .22s don't have quite enough mass.

Those subsonic .22s in my 10/22 are so quiet, you can hear the gun click and you almost think it missfired until a little while later when the bullet finally hits the target.

I didn't shoot at anything the owner of the shop did. Anyway he had a catch in there for small caliber weapons.

I'm getting ready to take it out up into the hills right now. I have my regular hi speed rounds and some sub sonics (wanna see how quiet they are out of the bolt gun).

I shoot Super Colibri's with my single shot Ithica in my basement and it makes more noise when the bullet hits the trap than when it fires.

Well my day shooting got preempted. Just after we left the house there were 2 dogs running loose in the street and almost got run over by a van coming the other direction. Me being the softy that I am I stopped and collected them up and brought them back home and called the local vet on the one dogs tags and left a message to see if they can help find the owners.

One is a full grown Corgi and the other is a Border Collie pup maybe 4 months or so old. Both very sweet, hopefully I can track down their owners.

Cool. I have been looking at the Mossins that keep popping up for super cheap. I love bolt action fire arms.

Still looking for a 1911 in a good price. Also been keeping my eye on a used FNP .40 at the local gun shop.

just bought a mosin 91/30 a couple of days ago. Waiting on some surplus ammo to arrive. Paid under a hundred for the rifle, spent almost as much for 440 rounds. A buddy has the carbine version and it is loud as E36 M3 and kicks like none other. Good guns though.

The CCI CB Longs (22) are really, really quiet in a rifle. I've seen them at wally world. They won't work the action on a semi-auto, so a bolt gun or or single shot is perfect.

I like bolt action 22's. You have phun and don't burn up the ammo like a 10/22 will. Even more so with a single shot.

Yeah we were going to take the Mosin M44 out with us today as well but that didn't happen. Reminds me I need to go get those out of the truck.

Dr Hess yeah I went to my local Walmart looking for some CCI CB longs and they only had the shorts. I still got a box just to have fun with and see how loud it is out of this lil bolt. I was told It basically will just be the sound of the hammer hitting and then a thump from the bullet hitting its target.

Where can I find a trap for .22s? Basment shooting sounds fun

.22 Bullet trap, but minimum distance is 25 ft. Good ventilation is important - There's often nasty stuff in the priming compound.
