My girlfriend in college had a couple of them, and I have been trying to get my wife to upgrade to them when our Scotties go. They were way easy to train even as older dogs, easier than any dog I've ever been around.

Great fun dogs, top of my list in purebred or mixed variety.

I've be never had one but have been around a few and have told the wife we should get a corgi. They seem like real good dogs

Although I'm not a big fan of pure bred dogs, Corgis tend to be pretty cool. I'm not a dog expert, but I was married to a vet tech for 20 years and worked with vets for 13, so I've picked up a few tidbits.

I know this will limit your field, but I suggest the following. If you are getting a rescue from a shelter, you should be able to discern its health by the reports from the shelter. You can also determine its temperament by meeting it in its adult state instead of getting a puppy and having no idea how it will end up. If you're getting from a breeder, that can also be good. Breeders are always getting rid of "retired" dogs or dogs that don't exhibit the right coat color or a tail that doesn't look right. Getting a dog away from a trophy breeder is always a good thing.

As with any dog, get one that was spayed/neutered at the early end of its window. In females, it prevents cancers; both uteran and breast. In males, it completely alters their masculine behavior before it can start and also prevents testicular cancer. If you wait until sexual maturity, the masculine behaviors will be set and immensely hard to change.

With Corgis, the main issues will be hips and skin allergies. Hips are just a known issue with a high probability. Please don't get one (my opinion) if you don't plan on ponying up for $1000 surgery to correct it. Hip problems are intensely painful and it irks me to see so many people putting an otherwise perfectly healthy dog to sleep because they won't pay money for "just a dog." Skin allergies tend to crop up later in their lives, usually 7 years and up. It makes them miserable, and it is usually from their diet. They become incredibly allergic to things in their food and you might end up cooking them chicken and rice every day.

Corgis are great dogs if you get one with a good demeanor. My cousin had one that bit me every time I hugged her because he thought I was attacking her. Herding breed traits. That wasn't really a Corgi trait, just a function of the fact that he was a dick. Never liked that dog.

In short, they can be great dogs. I think they have a higher percentage of being jerks than some other breeds, and higher chances of expensive health issues, but be a smart chooser and you'll be fine.

Our dog is a Staffordshire bull terrier Corgi mutt.

He gets alone with most other dogs. Really the only problems I have had from him is being deathly afraid of storms and trying to snatch food from your hand.

Much in the same way I believe that "when the home is ready, the cat will appear", the same thing happened for a dog.

This little girl was found wandering the street near our vet's office. We think she was abandoned. Not sure what she is, there may be some Corgi in there since she's short and a little stocky. Vet says she is about a year old and will only be #35 or so. She loves the kids, she's partially trained, and my wife is thrilled.

We're still working on a name. Our cats are named "Tom" and "Edison", so maybe the dog can be "Curie" so we can keep the science theme running. Of course if it was a boy he'd be "Tesla".

I've had Porter, my Corgi-Border Collie mix for like 4 years now and he's been great. My friends always ask if he's coming when I visit. Pretty sure they like him more than me... I got him around 1 yr old and he's been pretty chill the whole time I've had him. He does pick on stuff really fast, for better or worse. I'd 100% recommend one if you're looking for a dog.
