Annie and I have a few, but I think our favorite is "Somewhere In Time," with Christopher Reeve. Good soundtrack as well. What's yours?

Somewhere In Time

(And he drives a great looking Alfa Romeo roadster from Chicago to the Grand Hotel ... well, wherever he had to park the car to get onto the island, which doesn't  allow cars).

In reply to Gary :

Funny you should mention Somerwhere in Time as I just happened to watch it for the first time a couple weeks ago after watching some Christopher Reeve interviews on Youtube.  I saw a bit of when I was little when my mother was watching it because "hey, that's Superman".  It's a Fiat 124 he drives.

I guess it's more of a mystery-thriller, but one of my favorite "any time" movies is Charade with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant.

I mentioned in the recent car movie thread the French movie A Man and a Woman.  About a widow and a widower who form a relationship.  The man is racing driver and there's a few scenes of him driving for Ford at a test track, Le Mans, and the Monte Carlo rally.  Your SO might think she's been tricked.

Bull Durham.  I'm not a huge Kevin Costner fan, but he does a great job in that movie, as does Susan Sarandon.  Some very funny scenes also.  One of my favorite movies.

And of course, The Princess Bride.  My son took his girlfriend to see it when it was playing in theaters for its 30th anniversary.  That felt good.

Casablanca.  Everybody remembers "Here's looking at you, kid," but once you start thinking about it, just about every character with a speaking role is romantically involved with someone or something.

Oooh... this sort of thing is my bag, baby.

Meet Joe Black.  Aside from having a naked Brad Pitt and Claire Forlani, it has an amazing love story that shows a truly strong love, it eschews the typical codependence of an unrealistic hollywood romance.  It has strength and beauty, amazing cinematography, and the MUSIC!  Thomas Newman's best in my opinion.  Brad Pitt plays a character of extreme spiritual power, but takes on a human form.  His simultaneous grasp of power and control is juxtaposed against an innocence and naivete and he plays it so well.

Dangerous Liaisons (Mandarin).  Don't watch the Glenn Close version from the 80s, watch the Chinese version with Cecelia Chung and Zhang Zhiyi.  Trigger alert, there are incredibly strong misogynist themes typical of the 1930s era Shanghai backdrop.  Try to view it as "this is how things were" and embrace its accurate representation.

The Notebook.  Duh.

Big Fish.  Holy E36 M3.  What a sweet love story shown against a fantastical whimsical Tim Burton treatment.  If you don't cry at the end, you're a cold-hearted bastard.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.  Offbeat, quirky, not really a happy ending, but super fun to watch.  Of all of Jim Carrey's "serious" roles, this one takes the cake.  Kate WInslet shines like a new penny.

Amelie.  This one is more about Amelie's love for humanity and how she is in love with observing society and philanthropy.

Brokeback Mountain.  Yes, it portrays two gay cowboys.  No, it is not excessive or strange.  Crazy beautiful love story.

Romeo and Juliet.  The 1996 Leo DiCaprio/Claire Daines version.  Baz Luhrman... nuff said.

Speaking of Baz Luhrman... Moulin Rouge.  Off the chain beautiful cinematography, lots of laughs, and a brilliantly original production.

Stage Beauty.  Damn.  It all builds to an incredible rendition of the murder scene in Othello.  Big love.

I Am Sam.  Sean Penn is stunning.  It's all about his love for his daughter.  Another one that gets my eyes wet every time.

"You've Got Mail" isn't bad, and makes you all nostalgic for the "buzzzzzzzzzzzz Ping!" of dialup internet.

Also poses one of the great questions vexing womankind: "Ugh, what is it with men and 'The Godfather'?"

African Queen

Before Sunrise. There are two sequels that follow the characters later in life that are good but not great. The original, though, is superb. Pay attention to the scene on the trolley car--all shot in one take.

Bridges of Madison County. Meryl Streep is amazing.
