Anyone else keep a bucket list of motorized things they want to do? I'd have to give it some thought to capture all of the ones that I have already accomplished (drive a Mini Moke, race on a track, fly a Jet, build and engine...)

Here are some that I am working on currently in case anyone can lend a hand:

•Drive a Ferrari. (not race it, not alone, just drive one)
•Drive a Semi (a parking lot would be fine)
•Drive a rally car (in the woods, on the dirt)
•1/4 Pass on a drag strip in something kinda fast

If anyone has "drive a Kia with a carseat" on their list, I am your man!

I have:

Owned/driven a Shifter Kart (Still do!)
Set FTD at an autocross (see: shifter kart)
Drag raced on an actual track
Done wheel-to-wheel racing (dirt oval, still do)
Built an engine ALL BY MYSELF! (and blew it up, all by myself!)

I would still like to:

Race/HPDE Laguna Seca
Do a lap of the Nurburgring
See an F1 race in person (preferably Monte Carlo or Silverstone)
Drive a car more than 200 MPH
Make a sub 10 second 1/4 mile pass
Do the SCCA Solo Nationals

I have many wants.

Run a car at Bonneville- get a 200mph club whatever.
Build the worlds fastest...something. Likely to be run at Bonneville.
Compete in Pikes peak.
Enter a demo derby.
Learn to drift.
Get my kid into racing (I got a few years before I can even start that one.)
Be self employed.
Drive an F1 car.
Win a legitimate race of any sort. Autox would do.

I was just discussing this with a friend the other day, and we knocked off an item together last summer: seeing Pikes Peak before it goes all-pavement. (Well, it was his first time at the event, my second.)

Achieve 200mph driving a car

Make a serious attempt at a Solo Divisional/Tour/National-level

Build a car(kit, Locost, strip/rebuild, etc.) & complete it

Fortunately I've been able to check Rally off the list. Not that I wouldn't want to do more, but the expense/risk factor is high enough that I doubt I ever will.

My list is more "attending events" than "to do" lists...

Attend Le Mans

Attend an F1 race at Spa, Monza

Go to the Alps

Backpack thru Europe.

Driving.... Some sort of race car and winning so I can go to some sort of Runoffs

Last one (most important): Get my girlfriend to trust my driving...

I've gotten to do some neat stuff, and I guess I'm making headway, but I can't shake a couple of things:

There's so much to do and experience that I feel like I'm making miniscule headway.

As soon as some schmuck like me does something, it loses a lot of allure

Let's see...

Go spectate at LeMans fo' real.

Drive the Giant's Despair hillclimb.

Drive the Pike's Peak hillclimb.

Do SCCA Solo Nats and trophy.

Ride the Rockies from Mexico to Canada on, say, a Gold Wing pulling a real dirt bike (CRF450X will do nicely) on my own schedule; just pull over and ride the woods for 2 days if I feel like it.

Drive in a real Rally America rally.

These are the 'off the top of my head' events, there ain't enough bandwidth for everything.

EDIT: If we add 'dones':

white water rafting,

raced and won my class in MX/enduro/hare scrambles,

drag raced motorcycles (didn't do so well),

won my class in AX including year end class wins (and yes there were other cars in my class! CSP was sorta crowded two years. ),

raw time FTD in AX twice,

won my class in hillclimbs (again multiple cars in class!),

did 2 different NASCAR driving schools,

did the $2006 Challenge,

going back to LeMons for the fifth time and our team was 10th overall once.

Forgot to mention I really want to go skydiving. My kid does too, we will do that together for her 18th birthday.

I'm actually going to Le Mans this year - we decided to go to the Le Mans Classic instead of the modern race. At 3 am, I'd rather see a Ferrari holding off a GT40

Personally, I don't have a bucket list. I decide something would be very cool to do, then I start working towards it.

This is the right approach. Not that I'm so good at doing it and nothing wrong with the Bucket List Game. (It's fun.) But look at the lists (and I look at my own)...a lot of things we think would be wonderful are very doable. We're just held back by inertia.

That is a good list.

I would add to that:

Go to Goodwood

Go to Le Mans

Get a racing license

That is all I have for now.

I've been fortunate enough to fulfill many of my desires, mostly because many of them aren't that complicated. I remember reading an editorial when I was in high school in the mid '80 in C&D or R&T about the writers doing some track testing and being approached by a guy who was asking them all sorts of questions. At one point, the guy says "Man, I'd like to go racing more than anything." And the writer basically said "Well, do it then." That sort of stuck with me. If it's truly something you want to do more than anything else, it's an utterly attainable goal. Less than $1000 will get you a good seat in a Lemons or Chump Car these days, so the excuses are getting thinner and thinner.

Still, though, if I had to name something that's always been in the back of my mind that's eluded me to this point, it's that I'd love to run a race in a real GT1 car. 1980s Trans Am was what got me hooked on racing, and there's always been something special about those tube-framed mostrosities that really hit me the right way.

If anyone has one of these they'd like to see in print, you know where to find me:

I want to get married at the Race Track, this one might actually happen.

Would like to see the Nurburgring and maybe even be able to drive it.

Eventually get my Race License, maybe even race a little if/when I can afford it.

Finally finish one of my automotive projects without losing interest or running out of cash.
