Mostly OK, I do it frequently. Some people have had problems putting Testors on top of Tamiya, but I think it was the high end "laquer" like the metalizers. Never a problem to put the Tamiya on top.

Tamiya acrylics can go over anything. Not much can go over them. Most enamel, and certainly any lacquer will be too "hot" and have a reaction.
I didn't finish my Tbird last night. Spent a few hours on it, but still have the headlights, mirrors, and trim to do. Plus I messed up the paint on the fender putting the front bumper on... so that'll need fixed. Might try my luck with respraying just the fenders... but it's risky with silver.
I like to use Tamiya or other acrylics over a lacquer-based paint for details like window trim, grills, etc. That way, if I screw up, I can remove it with Windex and/or a toothpick without damaging the underlying paint.
The 962 never made it any farther than my last pic. Too busy this month.
Good info all. Thanks.
One more question. Can I put Molotow chrome pen over Tamiya acrylic? If not what are my options for trim?
In reply to vwcorvette (Forum Supporter) :
My results of Molotow over Tamiya are mixed. You have to flow it on quickly and leave it. Go back for second coat only after it is fully dry. It definitely does dissolve the Tamiya if you rub into it.
Molotow takes a long time to dry sometimes too. If you can live with a duller look, a silver metallic Sharpie can work in a lot of situations, and dries quick too. For fine detail, a silver gel pen can work, but is tricky to apply sometimes, and also usually wipes off if I happen to touch it.
I sat down and busted most of this out tonight... need to do the emblems in the tail lamps, and decals, but pretty much done!

That is sweet. What did you use on the exhaust?
Somehow even though it says "finish by 9/27" in the thread title, I kept thinking I had until the end of the month. Lol.
Fun with decals! This kit comes with engine bay decals, which is a nice extra, but they're not 100% accurate from what I can tell. And my phone can't even pick up the detail because they're so small. Suffice to say I'm deviating from the instructions slightly on the placement because I found reference photos.

There's also an oil filter label, oil cap logo, radiator cap logo, and fender and trunk badging. And then I need to give the whole car a once-over to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Can I just say that y'all are awesome?
This month has royally sucked for me and I haven't even looked at a model all month and you made awesome creations anyway. Thank you, I needed that.
Challenge build starts tomorrow.
This is basically done. Gotta try to wipe some smudges and fingerprints off it before I box it up and send it off. It's unbelievable what sort of havoc I can wreak on a paintjob just by continuing to touch it.
Oh, and I have an idea for my challenge build.
You see, I bought this built model on ebay last year to steal its windshield, which turned out to be glue-fogged anyway, so then I had no idea what to do with it. Well, now I know. Pics to come.

That interior more than makes up for the underwhelming chassis. Is the wood grain a kit decal?
In reply to slowbird :
I don't have any receipts for my challenge build kit More in the "Scale Model Challenge Cars" thread I will start forthwith.
You guys are getting incredible results. I'm having fun being a part of it. Both mine so far were stalled 20+ year old starts so hopefully once I start fresh I'll be able to put out a better result. Looking forward to the October challenge!

Second person to ask me that. Nope. Paint. Tamiya brown toothpicked over testors wood.

Pffft, we believe you. Who's gonna cheat at an online model car show with no prizes?!?

WOW that is a great wood-grain effect, My first thought when I saw it was "that kit came with nice decals."

Don't get too close!

Despite the AMT chassis, that turned out to be a sweet ride!
