I've recently parked my 4yr WoW account, as well.
I nominate this thread for worst enabler on this board, seriously contemplating a PS3, wheel and GT5, I'll be on craigslist if you need me

Dooo eeeeeeet!

hey I was gonna use that hachi roku!! Takumi will kick your sorry arse! tofu delivering piece of crap...pssssh, I know my Cyborg isn't AS fast and can't certainly hold a drift like mine
IMPORTANT NOTE there is a brief update that you have to download
I hadn't signed in since last week and I had to download an update for GT5, only took a few minutes, but still noteworthy.
My old router took a dump late last week, I am up and running on a new router and we shall see if I see everyone this week.
I am always open to feedback on current or future series. Feel free to post it or send me a PM.
I will release more details later in this series, but my intention is to have 2 classes again for series 3. One class will be Hot Hatches, the other one (still needs some work) is an "Axis vs Allies" class. AvA is designed to be a team scored event on top of the individual results. Each player will receive a PAX type number based on prior results, this would be multiplied by their points. These points would be added to the team total and averaged by the number of drivers for that side, that would create the score. Highest team score wins the round, most rounds wins the war. Cars would open to any non-race car and limit by performance points. At least that is what I am thinking now.
I can't figure out how to add you guys as friends except to accept a friends request. So If you will please send graefin10 a friends request.
I'm definitely out for the SBC.
Just spent 45 minutes trying to find friggin' wooden toothpicks so i can complete making dinner.
Doubtful i'll make MX-5 either, but we'll see.

Did you find them the last place you looked?
That sure was fun tonight. Brad, you put that last lap together in SBC. It was fun racing with you though.
Since there's no pit in the next race yet there will be "light damage" does that mean you're screwed if you get light damage several times? I can't believe how fast an MX5 will go on that track. I was slowing down for the turn after the long straight but apex. and Nick, you two were drifting by me like a shot, lol. I'll have to practice drifting on snow. Looks like it's going to be important
One thing's for sure, racing you guys is'nt exactly relaxing. I'm going to have to unwind before I try to sleep.

Actually, i thought it'd be fun to keep looking for awhile afterwards.
what the hell were you making anyway haha....I know a few things on the top of my head that require friggen wooden toothpicks to be shoved in and a roof
Made chicken breasts stuffed with roasted red bell peppers, kalamata olives, fresh basil, and feta.
Needed to be held closed with toothpicks.
Apparently CVS doesn't have toothpicks, and Kroger is convinced that the best place to put them is in the picnic supplies aisle. BRILLIANT!
Good racing last night. I was very impressed with the first laps in both races. Despite the rain, I think the laps were cleaner than when we ran Monza in the last series.
In SBC, the Mini seemed to have even less traction than when practicing in my lounge. It took a full lap of spinning tires to get enough heat in them to allow the car to turn. My race was really entertaining. I battled with TJ and Graefin for most of the race. I was faster but kept watching the map and making small mistakes which would put me behind. On lap 5 I managed to drop my rear wheels on the grass in the middle of turn 3 and went into a full sideways slide at 115 mph. I ended up hitting the inside barrier and getting damage on the front right. Driving became even more difficult after that. I set about chasing Graefin with a wobble. I could carry more speed through the corners and out brake him, but he was a good bit faster in a straight line. That made for some good racing and several position swaps. I finally passed him for good on the outside of Lesmo 1 on the last lap. It was fun and challenging.
MX5 was a story of 2 races. I guess the transition from the Mini through me off more than expected. I didn't complete a single qualifying lap without spinning. So when the race started I pulled to the side and let everyone by so I didn't take anyone out. I tucked in behind aircooled and we ran a great couple laps going from last to second and third. On lap 5 I lost a bit of time to air in the Lesmos trying to control a slide then on the next lap I missed my brake point going into the second chicane and slammed into a barrier doing damage to FR corner and the engine. This required a pit stop and cost me several positions. I came out 6th and set about trying to climb back up the board. I caught all the way up to Graefin in 4th. I was close and wanted to get by and see if I could catch Nick. And then I looped it and fell back. I tried again, this time I over cooked it coming out of the second chicane and went off into the gravel. Funniest moment of the race... As I was rejoining the track I heard "HOOOOONNNKKK" and then a thud as Cam came sliding into my car. I actually laughed out loud... I had an awesome mental image of him laying on the horn slightly out of control. Both of our cars took damage and we raced each other in a wounded state for the last 2 laps. I looped it while ahead and Cam got past with just the parabolica to go. Should have been a better result by again my car was let down by the driver. Oh well, a good time was had.
I'm sad i couldn't join the MX5 race. Driving that car around that course in the rain was far easier to me than driving the Celica in the dry. My very first qual lap i was only something like 8 seconds off the fastest lap in the room, and that was with no practice. It was CAKE to drive!
Brad and Graefin, I'm just glad I didn't take either one of you out. There were 2 or 3 times where I was out of control and managed to only hurt myself. Sorry about that. It seemed like the 3 of us were fairly well matched and it was going to come down to who made the fewest errors. I was awarded several penalties and had a few offs (including one hard smack up with a wall that was the end for me) and in general didn't have a good race, but I still had fun. I saved the SBC replay, but haven't watched it or made any pictures from it yet.
What sort of times did everyone post in the snow? It is funny, but all these races and it seems like it will take a race in the snow to have some traction in an SBC race. The snow tires rock. I've only done a handful of laps there in the Marcos, but it is fun.

Light damage is self healing. You suffer the same damage (I think) as you would otherwise, but it is not permanant. It goes away after several seconds so that you do not have to pit for repairs or put up with a car that will not go in a straight line for long, but it is long enough to pubish you.
I was also pleasantly surprised at the starts for the races. I think a lot of it had to do with how slow you had to drive on that course. I did get into a bit of a crunch and grind situation at one of the chicanes early in the race, but we were all going so slow there was no way there was going to be any damage.
For me SBC was a bit of a surprise. I thought for sure I was going to be rather slow. I was having a hard time breaking 2:35. I played with some setting and got some more practice and somehow managed to turn a 2:21! I think the big difference was cutting some of those chicanes really short.
Stupid inverted start had me at the back, but the traction advantage worked for me and a I got in front for the first turn (starting in 2nd gear helped). Fortunately no one was being overly aggressive and I made it through clean.
That 2nd chicane (variante velle Roggia) could be taken very fast if you cut the apex hard. Keeping two tires on the green paint on the first corner would make that chicane very slight. SEEING the apex was the hard part, so I never pushed it too hard. You could probably save at least a few seconds on that corner alone.
I did loose focus a bit a few times for SBC, and managed to almost loop at the above chicane at one point. Not enough to let the Elan catch up, but there was potential.
MX5 was pretty interesting, another back of pack start, but no traction advantage. I saw Apex and F40 jump to the front but decided I would do a bit of waiting game so I followed the pack waiting for the mistakes. Driving behind a pack of cars on that track was pretty insane. I literally could not see the track at all more than what was off to the side of the car right in front of me! The best tactic seemed to be hanging back a bit and watching for tail brake lights.
Brad was a good tail for a while and did make me a bit nervous at times, but disappeared at some point, along with F40 (who had faded earlier). I followed Apex for the rest of the race and did manage to get within 2 seconds of him at one point. I finally pushed a bit too far on the last lap and looped (thankfully there are some large runoff areas), so I settled for 2nd.
Greafin's point on this not being relaxing is right on. In the first couple of races in the Europa, it was literally mentally exhausting to do a race. I have since relaxed a bit with it, but it can still be stressful. Constant concentration is needed, potential for race ending mistakes are everywhere.
T.J., no problem at all. From what I see this group does try to respect the space of all the other drivers. We ARE going to hit each other from time to time. Those cars on those tires in the rain is as difficult a situation as I've ever seen. I watched some on-line "hot hatch" races on youtube and many of those guys don't respect each other at all.
Glad to hear about the self healing damage. We practiced a few laps in the snow and one thing that I see as a huge problem is that while following another car you can't see a thing. Fortunately I had done a couple of laps so I could drive by looking at the map and constantly glancing back at the car to keep it off the walls. Trying to do that with a pack of cars is, well, I can only imagine. It would be very easy for all of us to end up in a heap on the first lap. I left the Monza settings in my car and was amazed that it handled quite well and even the gearing was suitable. I'll still experiment though to see if I can learn to drift through the high speed turn at the end of the long straight. I know if I don't I'll loose a huge amt. of time to those who can do it. The traction is awesome but forget the brakes. Even with my brakes backed all the way off it takes a long time to slow down. If you don't back them down they lock instantly.
Points are going to be a minute before I can update them, my PC died and is in a state of being upgraded (waiting on a new mobo).
In the meantime, enjoy some of the sights of last night's action. I watched both replays all the way through, and the racing was great. There were a lot of good battles and clean racing. Well done drivers!
Looks like a nice day for a drive:
This is the optimal racing line:
This is not the optimal racing line:
The battle for 3rd swapped places many times and wasn't decided until the last lap!
You can drift a FWD... just it usually doesn't end with a good result...
You'll need to log in to post.
