On to the MX5 race...
Everyone played nice into T1...
Look how well behaved we all were...
The view from the back was tough...
Nick meet barrier, barrier... Nick...
I'm so glad i suggested white on white for Graephin's MX5 a week or so ago. That looks FANTASTIC. Almost (but not quite) makes me want an NC.
Nice pics Brad. I've missed the MX5 race two weeks in a row now. Hopefully, I'll be able to do both next week.
Aircooled, I knew your car had an acceleration advantage, but your start surprised me. You and I started on the back row. You got to T1 with a decent sized lead, having passed 5 cars. I got to T1 in last. I did have to let off and just hang back because I caught up to the crowd, but there was no way I was going to be able to pass anyone before T1. If I knew about the inverted start this week I would've sandbagged qqualifying.
Not really, I was happy to start in the back because I was wary of T1. Everyone did a great job keeping it clean there this race.
damn wall haha......but I TOTALLY REDEEMED MYSELF!! hahaha that was a good race panning out. I was just surprised any of us didn't meet the T1 barrier at all haha
everyone pretty much said what I was going to so I ain't gonna run my mouf I love the white on white....again lol
Chimp...you wuss...you have no life!
linkBen, check this link out. It's not pink, but you could change it.

berkeley!
That car is amazing! Needs a motor transplant though.

My first new car was a 73 Celica ST. No time or money for autocross at the time so I never got to try it. It understeered so badly on the street though that I don't think it would have been very good without modifications. I like this GT a lot. Not crazy about the wheels or the fender mirrors but other than that it looks and sits right.
Re GT5: I had my second short practice session on Chamonix this morning mostly with my SBC 63 110S Mazda. As amazed as I was about how well the MX5 does on snow I'm equally shocked about how terrible the 110S does. I moved all the settings one at a time all over the map, even trying the stock suspension. The car is a pendulum. Sometimes I can catch the swing, sometimes I can't. There's just no real "feel" that you get from a decent handling car in the game. I even tried radical drifts with the tail hung nearly 90 degrees from the inside of the turn. The problem is you have to back off eventually and there's not enough steering lock to steer it (you would need about 210 degrees). So it's walk the razors edge for me again next week in SBC.
The Mini and the Alpine have a history of success in rally so it will be interesting to see how your game cars do. I think overall that the GT5 cars have a more realistic handling feel than they did in GT3 so maybe that will translate to the game. My gut feeling though is that the Mini and the Marcos will understeer and the Alpine will be tail happy.
However it turns out, I can't wait till next Wed. night.
I did a bit of practice a while ago on Chamonix and the Europa was surprisingly drivable. I am not certain how fast in comparison it will be but it will not handle large drift angles so if that is what you need I may not do so well.
I am still a bit surprised by the massive acceleration advantage the Europa seems to have. I can understand it over the RWD and FWD cars, but I believe there is a rear engined car in the mix and it really shouldn't be slower then a mid (unless it is doing wheelies, which I am pretty sure it isn't).
I feel a bit guilty sometimes because it seems to be much faster then most of the cars, but then again, everyone else had a chance to pick it. As I remember those that considered it were afraid of its handling and reconsidered. It was really tricky to drive at first, but it can be controlled, and when you do, it's fast.
At some point we will need to do some car swapping so I can see what everyone else is experiencing, and I can see how someone handles the Europa (I suspect it would be very bad with a controller). If everyone shared their car, then entered the room, we could all swap with any car (except your own) right?
I don't think you can use a borrowed car online. Not sure why, but I think it is so. When I borrowed Ben's celica for a test drive before Daytona, I was unable to drive it in my lounge and had to drive it in the practice area.
Someone else, try to use a borrowed car online. Maybe I'm wrong here. If it really doesn't work we could always give our cars to someone else and then swap back the next day. We are all good for it - don't think there is any danger of anyone stealing another's car.

I don't know... The Mini is pretty sweet.
Just barely. My best in MX5 was a 222.2 and in sbc I did several 227s but they are hard to come by. Tried again early this moring and only got to 223 in MX5 and only one 227 in sbc. I may just not have them set up right but I really have moved the settings around to see if I can make it better. If anyone has any suggestions on setup I'll listen. I love driving the MX5. I finally found a line to allow me to run flat out through the finish line esses. I may be making a mistake though because I'm practicing in clear weather so I can see the track better. I'll start on weather change tomorrow or tonight.
Are we doing weather change or sunny?
I've only done 4 or 5 SBC laps - might be all the practice I get this week. I think most of those laps were under 4 minutes. Not by much, but driving while looking at the map since I don't know the course must add some time. The Miata is fun to drift in the snow, but when I do it is only a matter of time until I loop it around. In the Marcos the handbrake is my friend.
In reply to BradLTL: Yeeeahhh! That means we can see . . . that is unless we're following another car.
So, with Round 7 coming this week, I am spending some time thinking about the next series, and figured I would get some feedback from the group.
For the classes, here is what I am thinking:
For Tracks, I have 2 thoughts / themes:
Let me know your thoughts, or I will just do whatever I want and you'll have to deal with it.
I don't think we need a weight or HP restriction on the FWD hatches. When we did the old GT4 tournaments, the highest powered FWD hatches rarely won. The only exception was when i was using the Mitsu FTO, which isn't really a hatch anyways.
Honestly, i'd like to see a more "open" modding atmosphere... think Time Attack style, but keep it to Sports Soft or "worse." If someone wants to try to haul around a tighter track in a 500hp fwd hatch, then good luck. Maybe a displacement cap, and open it to all FWD cars?
I like hot hatches and Axis and Allies. Not that i'm not enjoying myself, but i'm not really a fan of the spec races. I'm a "tweaker" and like to try to make up for my shortcomings as a driver (and my controller) by creating the perfect car for my driving style. The MX5 cup is fun, but even with the best possible car, i'm not going to win or even place. I'm sure this sounds like me pissing and moaning, but i promise it is. I'll race either way.
I would like the spec race cars and/or spec M3. The spec Miata series has made for some REALLY good close racing.
I have a dislike of the car being the overriding factor in both series.
I would also like to further submit for consideration a rule stating something along the lines of
"After competing in 3 races and not scoring in the top 3 in any of those races, you may change your car if you wish. This option is ONLY open after the 3rd race and may only be used then. (meaning 3 races, switch or not, after 4 you cant switch)"
The intent of this rule is to provide some relief to someone who made a poor car choice that makes them uncompetitive. I know we dont want to open the floodgates completely there, but this type of rule would provide an "out" for someone stuck at the back of the field because of their car. The reality is, if it isnt the car, it wont make a difference to the front, if it is the car, it makes the racer more interested in sticking around rather then being frustrated.
Apexcarver wrote: "After competing in 3 races and not scoring in the top 3 in any of those races, you may change your car if you wish.
What if we changed that rule to say, "After 3 races, you may punt aircooled, chimp and Nick at will"
That would be easier for me to keep track of...
Maybe we make it so the bottom 3 positions after 3 races can change cars 1 time. I don't want swapping of cars by track. That is why I lock everyone in to their cars.
I like the idea of having an open class and a spec class. Whatever we decide, we will probably end up with one of each (like we have now).
I like the hot hatch idea but enen though I tried to understand what you meant in your previous post about Allies vs. Axis, I don't understand. Sounds pretty complicated. At the same time I realized I didn't HAVE to understand it, just show up, give it my best shot, and then maybe I'd understand it.
Spec. M3 would be fine too, that is if they're at least on sport tires. I hope we do go with the 300hp full race cars at some time in the future. I enjoy those cars and modified small disp. street cars more than any other class. The really fast cars get too stressful to me anyway. I don't plan on doing a 24 hr. race with my Puegeot LM car.
I've never made a course but that too could be fun. 92 Celicas' idea to be able to replace the car after 3 races does make sense too because we really don't know if our choice will be at all competitve or not until we try it against real competition. I think I made a bad choice. I based it on it being faster @ Daytona, my first race with you guys, than the others I tried. I shouldn't have ignored the fact that it is a complete and utter pig in the corners and on the brakes.
Graefin10 wrote: I tried to understand what you meant in your previous post about Allies vs. Axis, I don't understand. Sounds pretty complicated.
Essentially it is just like a normal race. I just add another score based on the make of your car... German = Axis, US = Allies, and so on. Just another number for us to talk trash about. You'll still get to see you personal point accumulation.
You'll need to log in to post.
