I like the hot hatch idea but enen though I tried to understand what you meant in your previous post about Allies vs. Axis, I don't understand. Sounds pretty complicated. At the same time I realized I didn't HAVE to understand it, just show up, give it my best shot, and then maybe I'd understand it.
Spec. M3 would be fine too, that is if they're at least on sport tires. I hope we do go with the 300hp full race cars at some time in the future. I enjoy those cars and modified small disp. street cars more than any other class. The really fast cars get too stressful to me anyway. I don't plan on doing a 24 hr. race with my Puegeot LM car.
I've never made a course but that too could be fun. 92 Celicas' idea to be able to replace the car after 3 races does make sense too because we really don't know if our choice will be at all competitve or not until we try it against real competition. I think I made a bad choice. I based it on it being faster @ Daytona, my first race with you guys, than the others I tried. I shouldn't have ignored the fact that it is a complete and utter pig in the corners and on the brakes.
I think the Cosmo 110A is faster than the B, too....
We could alternate sacrificeing one race each. The sacrificial lamb woud hide behind something and pull out just in time to take out aircooled, Chimp, and Nick. That's all they'll do when it's their turn. Otherwise how will we ever get close enough to them?
Hey now. Let's simmer down with all this talk of kicking people, and stay the course with what works.... kicking F40.
Anyhow.. I have done a few laps of Chamonix. I am doing around 3:46 in SBC and 3:43 in MX5.
I can see how there will be some penalties for slamming into the walls. The interesting "how big are your balls" corner is #4. It's not 4 that will get you but being flung into to wall in the narrow area near 5.
MX5 is of course a lot more controllable then SBC, as usual. You can slow in corners by getting sideways with trailing throttle oversteer (or a nice flick). If you are at a slower speed and want to go slower, power on oversteer slows you down even more. Generally though, in both classes, the snow seems to numb the handling a bit, making it more forgiving.
You can run the track with your pavement suspension without much problem except for one area, S2. I ran the Europa lowered for a few laps and found that when I got into S2 the car would just go wildly out of control for no apparent reason. It of course was the washerboard surface there. This is one area where force feedback works against you since you need to hold the wheel solid the whole straight, at least for me, the Europa does not like going over a jump with any angle! Softening the suspension seems to have no noticeable negative effect on lap times anyway.
The Europa cannot hold much of a drift angle, but it does have good traction so it will be interesting to see how it does. I am wondering if getting the tail out and powering through corners will help the RWD types much (probably just make huge rooster tails).
Crap, I've been practicing on the wrong track! When I saw acs posting above and a prev. posting I knew what was up. I'll have to try to get a session in tonight to see what THAT track looks like.
ac, I've tried power on to try to drift the 110S and the tail just keeps going around. If I let off and it does come back in I can rarely keep it from swinging the other way and nosing into the wall. I just try to run at a speed that will keep it as straight as possible. It helps to use too high a gear so that power on doesen't cause a spin.
I may be out this week... at the very least I will be without practice..
right wrist swollen, rather sore, and in an immobilizer brace
If it helps I injured it while pushing a miata out of a garage (dead engine)
I will come around to watch / comment at the very least
In reply to Apexcarver: Hope you're able to make it Apex.
Tried a few practice laps on the correct track and finally got one under 3:50 with the MX5. Only did 2 laps with the 110S and they were just under 4:00. To me, this track is more fun than the other two we raced on since I started. It's really fun with the MX5. Difficult, but fun.
Aircooled....hahahaha
Well.....I agree with yous haha i'm down for Hot Hatch but I like the GRM class too.
This Wed. gonna be fun

From the first series. 80s-90s cars running at 350HP.
Well I'm out for the time being. Picked up a new writing contract that has me pretty far from home. It's more than likely that I won't be back for the rest of the series. Once I get word on the contract duration I'll know more, it will likely turn into full-time employment, which will mean a move.
Yay: Money
Boo: Missing out on internet racing.
Yay: Won SM class at AutoX Sunday.
Total: I'm coming out ahead overall.
Some more suggestions for Chamonix for those that may not get much practice. Note that these may or may not work for your SBC car:
-
Turn 4 (the banked corner) can pretty much be taken at full speed. You need to start it high (don't cut down on the inside early) and slide into the corner, if you can, to slow through the corner. The trick is getting pointed the right direction on exit and slowing down for the next corner. The track after the corner is rather narrow and has hard walls.
-
I have found that late apexes (swing wide into the corner rather then cutting in early) work better on most of the corners. It gives you more time to sluff off speed and less of an angle on the outside wall if you end up going wide.
-
Edges of the track can be useful for slowing down. You can dip you tires into the loose snow to help you through the corner or slow before a corner. There is a small bank at the left side before the tight right at 11 (I believe) that is useful, as well as the open inside part of one of the wider corners (maybe 21?) that you can just plow into to slow down (not the fastest way, but an option)
-
Computer braking points seem to be a bit conservative. As apposed to last week, if you brake when it hints you to, you will brake to early. Probably the effect of the snow helping you brake.
-
As noted before, drive dead straight through S2, if you don't you might find yourself flung into the wall by the jumps. The first bump is very early so get straight quick.
I did try this track a bit with the controller (I didn't do very well), and I can see how it would be difficult to hold a wild slide with the controller.
I've always had fun at this track

I've only ran this track like 2 times. I did manage to flip the Mini during a practice run though. I cut T21 a bit too close and jumped the bank on the inside. Ended up on my lip up against the "Total" signs. It was a GT5 first for me, I was surprised that I didn't get a trophy for it; come on PD... "You've earned the 'Head over heels' throphy".
I flipped my Gallardo on Trial Mountain at about.... 180mph. Didn't quite hit the last corner before the starting straight right. No trophy.
Even more impressive, and i wish i had saved this... i did a full barrel roll, landed, and continued on.

Does a barrel roll scrub any speed?

Surprisingly little... i don't think i dropped below 150mph.

Thanks aircooled. I read your post above several times and found some of the hints helpful. I lowered my averave by about 4 sec. I still can't do T4 full speed though. Got close once but I usually blow it and get turned around.
The only time I've been upside down in GT5 is trying to finish first in the Nascar series' Daytona Speedway 10 lapper. I can get to the front and several times was in the lead going into the last turn on the last lap. It seems to me that the AIs get a little more aggressive on the last lap and so far have always wrecked me before I can get off the banking. I can't believe I didn't save that replay. Guess cause I was so pissed. Seemed like I tumbled and fliped forever ending up on the lid. Of course it righted itself and I finished the race to get my last place cr. and xp. I'll bet I've tried that event 25 times and still no 1st. place. I finished first in all the road course events but just haven't found the secret to that one yet.
I did get a trophy for it though
hahaha I've flipped cars all the time at Trial Mountain
flipping cars is so much more fun on Shift 2
Not gonna be able to run. Dont want to push it with my wrist, plus need to do some studying for 2 midterms tomorrow.
Gonna have to be one of my drops
In reply to Apexcarver:
Hate to hear that Apex. but I can def. understand how healing and midterms are more important. Hope to see you there next week.
GOOD LUCK ON MIDTERMS!

Not sure if I'll make it either. 15 minutes to game time and it's not looking good for me. Don't wait for me and have fun.
Is Brad late? I can put the room up if he is not available.
I will wait until 5 til if he doesn't show then put one up (I seem to have good luck with it)
I may drop in and watch for a bit to do some mental rebooting.
On the plus side, these are my last midterms in my undergraduate career.
