I'm on the lookout for a cheap snowmobile, wrecked or whatever. Need the engine and CVT for a... project. I'm not planning on working on it till December really, so I have time to find one, maybe over summer when prices should be down. 500+cc, and 2 stroke preferred.

Anyways, to actually add some content I'll share this one. My brother in law picked up at auction I think in November. He did a little bit of carb work and got it running nicely, we rode it 2 days or so when we actually had snow, which was fun, and also enough to say that was fun, but with the amount of snow we've not been getting, might as well sell it. He made a nice profit.

1971? I think. Massey Ferguson Ski-Whiz.

Not super fast, but it was pretty fun. Neither of us had ridden a snowmobile before.

That generation of vmax were great. My dad owned a couple, super reliable and fun.

It's been a great machine. It's hard to believe it's 22 years old, and it's plenty fast for me. I can't imagine what a new sled would be like.

That Ski-Whiz reminded me of this place. We had sleds when I was a kid, and used to go to the track with one our friends who raced for Alouette, so I love the vintage stuff

This was like the one my grandparents had growing up:

Put about 60 miles on this afternoon because the weatherman says it's going to be warm for a couple of days. Sled still is taking just a tiny bit of coolant so I'm going to throw some dye in the coolant system and check for leaks.

What are those small wheel looking things on the skis?

Edit: did some Googling and found the Roller-Ski, that's a cool little device. Do they work well?

They work great, on a lighter sled you can retract them by rocking the sled side to side.
I really haven't used them much but if you need to cross any amount of ashphalt they make it so you can stear and not eat up your runners.
