I don't have any semblance of a sweet tooth left anymore. Yet today, I was thinking one of these universally hated peanut butter taffys sounded good.

I don't even know where to buy them locally. It is a craving that will go unsatisfied

If you don't like candy corn you're just wrong. There's no two ways about it.

The best thing I ever got on Halloween was a full size biologically accurate rubber bat.

We camped out at the bottom of that dudes driveway trading candy to other disappointed kids and came home with a pillowcase full of large rubber bags.

Public Service Announcement:

In the history of ever there has only been one case of somebody tampering with Halloween candy. It turned out to be the kid's father trying to collect insurance money.

NOBODY LIKES YOUR KIDS ENOUGH TO GIVE THEM FREE DRUGS.

Turns out today (10/30) is National Candy Corn Day.  smiley  I'm one of those people who actually likes them.  I'll even eat circus peanuts and Necco wafers.

When I was a kid the lame treat on Halloween was home made popcorn balls - they were almost always stale, full of old maids and hard as rocks.  Of course, that was when handing out home made treats was still acceptable, and 'fun size' candy bars hadn't yet been invented.

All of you complaining about the quality of Reese's Cups are missing the point.

Improving the ingredients doesn't make a better peanut butter cup.  It just makes a more pretentious one.

And this is coming from a guy who wonders why there even is milk chocolate, since dark chocolate exists.

I'm with you on the chocolate part, but having a peanut butter cup with actual peanut butter instead of brown kinetic sand on the inside is eye opening.

The big problem with chocolate is the way Hershey's manufactures its American milk chocolate. To get a consistent and stable product, they intentionally spoiled the milk being used. It has a much higher concentration of Butyric Acid - a major flavor component found in spoiled butter and vomit.

Meanwhile, Cadbury in England figured out a different process that produces smoother, sweeter, not-acrid chocolate that is just as consistent and stable. But Americans got used to Hershey's and expect these flavors, just like we think German lagers are supposed to taste papery and skunky.

It was that discovery that made me realize why I started preferring dark chocolate as I got older, though I still enjoy more "European-style" milk chocolate.

Aldi has a 5-pack of chocolate bars that only costs a like $1. It's been one of my go-to's recently.

I love candy corn. But I need to know. Does anyone else remember the different flavors they had? I try to find them in stores and I never can.

There was wildberry, apple pie, caramel, and so many others.

Things that are true:

Peanut butter M&Ms > Reese's Pieces.

Candy corn is unfairly maligned.

That Australian licorice that I've only ever seen in the checkout display at Lowe's absolutely slaps.

I haven't been in enough of a candy mood this year to actually buy a whole package of them, though.

Was looking for Clark bars the other day in deference to "Reacher".  No luck.  I used to like Mars bars but I haven't seen those in decades.

Candy isn't a treat to me unless it has peanut butter.  Weird, I know.  To quote Dwight Yoakam's character in Slingblade, "I ain't saying it's rightI'm just telling the damn truth."

Me too but I like to open the bag and let them air dry for a week or two to get a nice crust on their exteriors.

This. Drugs are expensive, no one is handing them out for free.

Tangentially related, I think Trunk or Treat's are berkeleying lame. If you're worried about the safety of your kids while trick or treating, I don't know, GO WITH THEM.

As for candy, Snickers/Twix/etc........I also like ZERO bars but don't remember the last time I saw them. Then again, I try not to eat much candy. If it's chocolatey and crunchy, I'm probably going to like it.

Different.  Not better, not worse.  Just different.

Candy corn is unfairly maligned.

No, it isn't.  It's edible.  It's better than Necco Wafers.  That's a low, low bar.

That Australian licorice that I've only ever seen in the checkout display at Lowe's absolutely slaps.

Yeah, that's good stuff.  I want to say our Wal*Mart sells it.  Pretty sure you can get it at Homegoods, too, of all random places.

This thread is all kinds of wrong. Except for the universal hate for Necco wafers. Case in point: I've only seen Mounds listed as a most-disliked candy. Nossir, Mounds are delicious. I try not to buy the assortment that includes them, because then too many Mounds bars go in the Margie.

Anyone else choose their Halloween candy based on what they won't binge?

Margie

No, I've always bought the good stuff I like as well. I don't want to be "that house" that buys those big bulk, cheap bags full of crappy candy.

I listed Almond Joy as my #1. I put Mounds under the same umbrella, but prefer them with the almond
