I just finished the book Hard Driving, by Brian Donovan, a bio about Wendell Scott. Scott was one of the few drivers to break the Nascar color barriers, and was one of the most successful black drivers in American racing history. this guy was grass roots to the very core, and goes right to my short list of American racing legends. no happy endings, but the impact this man had was phenomenal, and unintended, which make it all the greater.
The story is amazing...its also down to earth and at times brutally honest. get it, read it, learn from it.... I did , and it blew me away...

Thanks, I hadn't heard of it but am ordering it today. He was one of My father's favorite drivers.

I remember seeing the movie "Greased Lightning" about Wendell Scott way back when. I remember being disappointed with the action sequences, but it's a pretty incredible story.
I'll check out the book.
Wendell Wendell, Wendell Scott. Drive so fast he couldn't stop.
Wendell Wendell, he's my man. He's a stock car driving man.

I remember my dad taking me to see "Greased Lightning" when I was little, I will have to pick up the book, thanks.
Hey, 924guy and jde, thanks for the favorable comments -- glad you liked the book.
FYI, the web site for Hard Driving is www.harddriving.us. It includes the preface and prologue, so those interested can get an idea of how it reads. Plus, of course, there's the usual promo stuff.

Thanks for writing a book about a guy who's overlooked!
I had no idea he was from Danville. VIR's home territory.

One of the best books Ive ever read, and done with such class and integrity it left me speechless. I sincerely hope there is, or will be a movie deal forthcoming, this story needs to be on the big screen...
Was that an HBO original movie, I think I remember that.
Neat to see he's getting a new wave of publicity. I met him and his sons at the first race at Talladega in 1969, had dinner with them in the 'food tent' in that airless infield that evening. Very nice, well-spoken, kind man. I was offered a job as Jack Man for the Sunday race, and to this day I regret turning them down.
I had to sell grape snow-cones instead!
Doh!!!
Read it a couple of years ago. I realy enjoyed it, think it should be required of those who watch Nascar and can read.

Thanks for writing it! That man's story is one that needed to be told by somebody other than Hollywood.
