Tunakid #2 is tough on stuff, but not this tough. One of his siblings apparently threw this thing down on concrete. I can't find a replacement which is both available and shipping within a week or so. What other derailleurs are compatible?
rd-ty500-sgs
Any Shimano 7 speed derailleur should work providing they can handle the max sprocket size on the rear cassette which I am guessing is a 34t. You are pretty much limited to the Shimano Tourney series for new though. RD-TX800, RD-TY300-SGS. If it is less 34t you have more options. You could also shop used and any Shimano 7 speed derailleur should work providing they have the capacity.
Check the hanger. It is probably fubar as well.
I think you can also use an 8 speed derailleur though.

The hook shaped bracket is ok, but the next bracket piece is not.
Will basically any shimano 7 speed derailleur work if it mounts to the frame the same way? The one you linked is like a lot which I see in that the cable appears to enter from the back of the bike, whereas the one he has is set up with this weird pulley deal. Does the new cable sheath just make that 180 degree turn without any trouble?

Yes you should be fine. You are going to want to replace the cable and housing anyway and it won't be a problem to run it to fit.
But how did you check the hanger (the hook shaped bracket)? I recommend taking it off the bike and placing it on a flat surface. If it wobbles at all on the flat surface it is going to need to be either straightened or replaced. If it isn't straight you aren't going to get the drivetrain working right. Those hangers are generally acting as basically a fuse to make sure the derailleur or frame don't get damaged in an impact and given the damage to derailleur I'd be amazed if it isn't bent.

I will try taking it off tonight. It looked straight enough. I replaced it last week, because the one on it broke in half. I thus assumed it to be fairly brittle, and this one was definitely not broken in half. Do you have a part number for that guy if I need to replace him?
Thanks

That part is going to depend on the bike. Hangers aren't standard and can be a complete PIA to find... It maybe easiest to go into a bike shop and they could probably match it up. They also will have a tool to straight it. Maybe if it is aluminum straighting does always work.
Or you can try to make your own tool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWdO4dnu18g
Try to find a local bicycle repair guy on facebook. Someone has a bin of parts.
even my LBS keeps a good stockpile of parts for this reason (especially for kids)
This looks like it would be hard to break.
Oooops! Wrong kind of de-railer!
That's looks like a mega range cassette. You do need something with a longer cage for those. I just put one on my sons bike and i had to source a derailleur new. I got a Shimano new derailleur for $30 shipped.
this is what I bought. Looks a little more expensive now

Thanks guys, it fit and worked great once I figured out how to adjust it!
Now put some solder or heat shrink on that cable end before it frays
It took me way too long to figure out what was going on in that top pic.
You can also crimp a bullet-type 12v wiring connector on the end if you don't have shrink wrap that small. Npt pretty, but I've run bikes that way for years.
