Have you folks ever seen those tractor trailer brake and turn signal lights that "bounce"? They don't strobe, they just flash once really quickly when they come on.

I've googled a few hundred times and couldn't find them. I need some for a sequential turn signal project that is in my head. Once I find those lights, look for my upcoming and exciting thread on building a sequential turn signal box

Yes, I have, and recently. A couple of skeezy characters in a Subaru Liberty (I think it was a Liberty; RHD Aussie version of the Legacy) showed up two nights ago to look at the Legacy shell I'm selling. They rally theirs, and had those sequential arrow/directional indicators on the car. Said they got most of their lighting at interstate truck stops.

Haven't seen them but you'd need some electrical doodads to do that, it wouldn't be part of the light itself.

Sportbike guys would probably know, they use all kinds of doodads to make their taillights more noticeable.

Actually, they are part of the light itself., like these: http://www.levineautoparts.com/peterson-8344a-4.html

Those won't work for me since they are designed for a very specific function; to strobe when activated, and not strobe during turn signaling.

The ones I've seen "bounce" once or twice in about a 100ms rate, then stay on, so they don't require any special wiring. I want sequential turn signals with three of these lamps on each side, but I want the sequential box to be timed to about 100ms (or whatever the flash rate of the lamps are) so that the sequential lights kinda go in a wave.

If I can find the specs on the lamps, I can maybe build a box with the right delay.

it's a control board. some led lights just have this integrated to the casing of the light as you've shown

Perfect for the sequential part, thanks! But I still need to find the single-bounce LEDs

I just saw this on an ambulance I was driving behind, so this gives you another direction to look.

similar to what you are describing http://www.flashingbrakelights.com/Products.html

If Whelan doesn't have it, Signal Dynamics does.

These are the 2 companies that do the majority of the police/fire stuff.

Good link, but the lights I'm looking for are a self-contained LED enclosure that blinks once very quickly, then stays on. Its not an add-on, its within the light itself.

Again, great thought, but not what I'm looking for. The lights I'm seeking are sold at any truckstop as a direct replacement for standard taillight enclosures. Unfortunately, multiple searches on those truckstop websites don't show the product I'm looking for.

If you've ever been in a truckstop with a lighted display of their light options, its there. It is an on-off-on standard LED light. When it receives 12v, it comes on, then off, then on. The first "on" is for a tiny fraction of a second, then it goes off for a fraction of a second, then comes back on... and stays on until the flasher kicks off.

I wish I knew how to make a .gif or .mov so I could show you what I'm talking about.

you need a timer circuit of some sort. an LED is a "Light Emitting Diode" . the light is a byproduct of power passing through it.

I imaging a 555 timer chip could give you the results you need.

I googled "fire once pulse generator circuit" to get this:

so, take that circuit and have it feed to a constant "on" state for after the "blip"

That's good stuff. Me and soldering guns don't get along, but I think I can build that. Thanks
