Long story. Friend is a young lady single mother of two. She received diaconal assistance and she got back on her feet. She left her job to start her own cleaning business, and is doing pretty well. She's expanding a ton, but not enough to hire an assistant. She needs an easy phone-based app to keep track of all the things. Here in her words:

I have a question for people who make appointments for clients regularly! Do you have a text reminder app/service you use? What kind of price point is it per week/month? Can it sync with Google calendar? Looking at possible ways to free up my time more rather than sending reminder texts myself every week

Only things you have real familiarity with, please.

Thanks

We use Trello at the office.

It keeps up with all of our services and construction jobs.

It will set reminders but I don't use that function, my admin keeps up with it.

We have multiple lists, New, Quoted, Completed, Invoiced, depending on where the job is in the process.

All of our techs have access to the board and can update the cards as jobs are completed or need more information. It also allows you to upload pictures and other information instead of losing little pieces of paper everywhere.

We have been very happy with how it works.

The total cost is free.

Here are a couple of shots of our mainboard.

I have used signup genius (just the free tier).  Its a bit of a pain for me, but my use case was a bit different - I used it to schedule participants in user experience studies, so I need to filter/exclude certain people by height/weight and I couldn't figure out a way to do that.

It seems to work ok otherwise, and the targeted use case seems to be very small businesses who need to make appts - hairstylists, cleaning, etc.

I have only used it through my browser, and I know nothing about calendar integrations.

It also works from a cell phone so you are not tied to a computer to make updates. You can make them on the run and everyone can see them in real-time.

Is she looking just to keep herself organized, or would she potentially be interested in an app that would allow clients to self-serve appointment setting? If just to keep herself organized I think trello will work well for her. For self serve scheduling, there's an app out there called Calendly that I've seen a lot of sales type folks use. Essentially you put the blocks of the day where you want to allow folks to get appointments and how long those blocks should be, and one can send a link to their personal page that will show all open blocks and allow customers to sign up for their own slots. Not sure on pricing for that, just know that it exists and I've seen it used in similar use cases before.

Interesting thought! I don't know. I'll suggest it.

Another vote for Trello. The phone app is easy to use as well.
