I've been getting serious about walking/jogging the last few months, have been getting some weight off, etc.
About 3 weeks ago, I pushed it really hard for 4 straight days, then my hip was bugging me a bit, so basically only went walking one time in a week with no jogging, and it felt better.
Last week pushed hard again for 5 straight days and when I woke up Friday it was hurting a bit again. It's not excruciating or anything, more bothersome/annoying, but obviously not right.
So I took Fri/Sat/Sun off, and even walking around during the day it's still buggin me a bit, but when I start jogging vs speed walking, there is no pain. That leads me to believe that it's more muscle related based on the longer strides when speed walking? It's last part of my stride when I push off on the ball of my left foot when the pain happens.
I know, I know, go see a doctor........just curious if anyone had any ideas..........I'll likely take the rest of the week off from walking/jogging and see how it feels and try to not push so hard next week.
Lay on your back, put your feet together, bend your knees to about 90 degrees, then spread your knees apart as much as you can, so the soles of your feet are pushed against one another. Does it hurt? If so, do that each evening until it doesn't hurt anymore. I tend towards inflamed tendons, and have found stretching them to be as helpful as anything.

Yep, that was definitely tight. Spent a few minutes last night and again this morning doing that to help stretch it out.......felt good once it loosened up a bit.
I'll do that over the next few days and take it easy on the walking/jogging and see how it feels.
Limbering up solves a number of problems. Only trouble is it takes funny positions to stretch the right stuff.

I'm just about 52, and I've had to come up with some really odd things to do to stretch things. I've got a spot on the corner of my ciderblock building that is a great back massager.
What exactly is that supposed to be stretching when you lay on your back like that?
It feels good and is definitely getting the sore spot, just want to know what I'm actually doing.......I looked up some other stretches for the hips and they didn't quite get it.
Sounds like hip opening stretches. Similar to some yoga poses I've done. I should start again. I have a left hip that bothers me after mowing the lawn. Funny though after a night of tending goal I feel fine.
A recent MRI for something else showed a tearing labrum in the left hip. I'm sure it's contributing to the problem.
Check out some yoga. There's some good stuff going on for athletes.

there are some OTC potions that you can take for joint pain. In my case, the pain continued and I was diagnosed at having hemochromatosis(too much iron in your system). It is common amongst aging Scotch/Irish males ie 50yo+. Your blood gets so thick that it no longer circulates properly.
The good news is that treated properly it does not affect your life since it is treated not by meds but by theauraputic plebotomies(in simple terms, they bleed you just like in the early days of medicine). Just a thought. No one in my family had ever been diagnosed with it but it can be quite deadly as your kidneys, liver and other internal organs stop functioning. YMMV

I'll second what vwcorvette said, hip opening exercises, stretches the flexor tendons. I do a lot of them, since I tend to get "locked up" from sitting in front of the computer so much. Yoga stretching is a life-saver.
I'm sure it's more an inflammed/overuse type deal, since both times its occured has been after 4 and 5 days, respectively, of jogging each day pushing hard with no breaks in between.
I'll do the stretches, maybe add in some Yoga, take a few days off on the jogging and report back in a few days.

Another suggestion? You may need orthotics. I do, because I have no arch and my feet tend to roll inwards, placing stress on knees and hips. If I run without orthotics, my hips feel it later.
Haven't read the whole thread, but I'll tell you this: See the doctor.
You don't know what your body is doing to help you run. Maybe a little adrenaline will block the pain. My mother was running a marathon on a fractured leg. Of course she didn't know her leg was fractured, but the end result was the other leg was broken. Quite a few months she spent in two walking casts. Not a pretty sight.
Anything that will help you, a doctor will have to be the one to give you. If its not that big of a deal, you'll know for sure.
Best of luck with that.
