So, I've been watching a lot of news today, and the main focus on this whole Iran deal seems to be the fact that most of the information coming out of the country is coming out via social networking sites. CNN especially is devoting whole chunks of coverage to covering their coverage, basically repeating "ZOMG, they're tweeting from Iran!" over and over.
So, it appears that—despite the predictions of Gill Scott-Heron—the revolution will not only be televised, but blogged, YouTubed, Tweeted, texted, IMed and 12-seconded.
Makes me feel pretty bad when I post "Now I'm taking a dump" to my Twitter while some poor guy is posting "A cop is beating me with a big wooden stick."
Discuss.

I don't understand this twitter thing, but I'm glad their stories are getting out. Maybe I don't feel the need to update the world of my pooping.
Is Twitter today's CB radio?

Yes.
@10-4GoodBuddy (not really)
I wish them the best,
But really, I wish they had rifles.
Actually, I think cell phones are the rifles of 2009.
Younger Persians have been workng on this "soft revolution" for at least 10 years.....they'll win too. Eventually.
As we can see, controlling information is the real power. And the nutjobs in charge of Iran can't stop all of the truth from getting out.
It's a great county and the folks there are kind and friendly. Too bad they have a minority of A-holes running the place. But like I said, that'll change. Soon, I hope.

Twitter....the I-drive of personal technology. Don't need it. Don't want it. Doing my best to ignore it and all it's slobbering minions.
I wish people (cough GRM, cough) would stop using treating Facebook like twitter...
Though more than that, I'm sick of those berkeleyin' quizzes!
good for the iranians for using the power of technology to keep the world informed. Hopefully they can kick out the terrorist supporting b*ds and elect a rational leadership.
My fear is that parts of Iran are still stuck in the middle ages, which is why people like Ahmadinejad actually get alot of votes. Let's hope the real majority of Iran support modern ways and gain control of their country.
Then if Israel and Palestine come to terms, we could turn our attention to the clusterf**k that is middle Africa.
why do you think China keeps such tight clamps on the internet?
Information is the best weapon in the world.

You mean like the NeoCons of America?

Thank you. Drop the 'ter' and you get the basis of Twitter.
Having said that, I agree that the ham handed handling of the Iranian election and the subsequent protests would have been kept real quiet if it weren't for the Internet.

You mean the neocons are in control, or neocons are the one in the stone age?
I know what I think...

Twitter's popularity sky rocketed after the terrorist take over of the hotel in Mumbai. It was the only information the world could get of what was going on inside the hotel.
