Looking for horror movie recommendations from the hive.  We have access to Netflix, Disney+ (some of which is horror of a different kind), and possibly Prime.  Once the virus restrictions open up, we'll also go back to requesting DVDs through the interlibrary loan program.

We like all kinds of stuff, from basic slasher movies to eerie, psychological thrillers.  Anything that has atmosphere and tension.  No preconceived notions about country of origin or subject matter.  Some preference for English language versions - I don't mind subtitles, but particularly in this genre it can be difficult to follow both subtitles and visuals at the same time.

Whattaya got that will creep us out?

While I prefer gore porn (Hostel, Saw, the Violent E36 M3 series from Germany) to straight up horror, I'm interested too.

Since the independent video store shut down forever ago, I've been thoroughly and repeatedly disappointed with the selections of the streaming services and the stuff that shows up on pirate sites.

Amazon had such a horrible filtering mechanism in the app, but they do have a lot of the old classics if you can search for them. Watching the old Stephen King movies and Texas chainsaws was a refresher.

In reply to RevRico :

Once public services open back up, see if your local public library participates in the interlibrary loan system.  Basically if it's at any library in our state and some surrounding counties from other states, we can put in a request for it and in a few days (or longer if there is a wait list) it shows up at our library.  We check it out on our card and have it for a week for free.  They have a very wide ranging selection in some cases; probably not a lot of gore porn, but you never know.

I've seen a clip or two from that.  Not sure if we're that hardcore.  I might be, but I'm not even sure about that.

I had to buy it on DVD to be able to see it. I was intrigued when I read about it..............it's ummmm.........unsettling to say the least.

The original "I Spit on Your Grave" was pretty, uhhh, intense as well.

But probably my 3 favorites of all-time, Halloween, Halloween II, and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

If you like your horror with some comedy, I really enjoyed Tucker and Dave vs Evil.

Yeah, it's been a while since we saw the original ISOYG, but yeah, it was good.

I saw a Blood Sucking Freaks reference the other day.  Been a while since I thought about that little gem.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil is awesome.  But I'd watch anything with Alan Tudyck in it.

Audition - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235198/

Let The Right One In - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/

Thir13en Ghosts - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245674/

The last one I liked because they did a LOT of background character development on the ghosts.

I really enjoyed the first Scream as well.

I really enjoyed the first Scream as well.

BSF was originally released in the mid-'70s as something like Theatre Of The Macabre, but it was acquired and slightly repackaged by Troma in the early '80s. It's kind of campy but definitely includes plenty of great '70s practical effects.  So, no, it doesn't have David Arquette in it.  That rings a bell but I can't think of the movie you have in mind.

I'm not a huge horror movie fan so take my recommendation with a grain of salt: I really like Cabin in the Woods. There's a delightful twist that I DID NOT see coming.

Nice, I'll have to check that out.

Just looked it up, it was "Eight Legged Freaks" that David Arquette was in. I just remember seeing the trailers on TV in college where at the end he would always yell something like, "Go to hell you EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS"

Not my cup of tea - the entire genre - but The Human Centipede. I've never seen it. I won't. Roger Ebert did not assign the film a star rating (not to be confused with awarding it zero stars), stating, "I am required to award stars to movies I review. This time, I refuse to do it. The star rating system is unsuited to this film. Is the movie good? Is it bad? Does it matter? It is what it is and occupies a world where the stars don't shine."

Also, it is described as a horror series, but I think that is misleading, but if you haven't seen it you may like Stranger Things.
