I've got an old sailboat that needs too much work to make it worth it to repair. It is sitting on a nice trailer, and I've been trying to sell the package, but it is proving difficult.

Anybody ever throw away a boat? How? Where? It is a 12 foot or so Starcraft Skylark. Cool boat, but not a good boat really.

Hack it up or just drag it to the dump.

If you live in SoCal's high desert you just dump it in El Mirage it seems.

Arrrr!  Fill the hold with cinderblocks, drill a few holes in the hull, and go for a sail.  Arrrr!

Strip the parts off it, and cut up the rest.

Many of the charity places that take donated cars also take boats.  Try something called "Boat Angel" or similar?  Dunno if you need to give them the trailer, too, or if they just bring a boom truck.

12ft. Not really that big. A swazall would make small enough pieces for dumpster.

Call your local landfill and drop it off.  You could get a 12ft boat into a pickup truck bed with just a little cutting

In this case, a friend got an insurance settlement when this 35 ft sailboat was run aground.

A roll off dumpster cost him $300

If a charity won't take it, sell it for $1.

Put it in a friend's driveway when they're not home.

There's an inspirational thread about that on here but I can't find it.

Nah, I want to get rid of the boat so I can sell the trailer. Probably could get $500 for it.... if it didn't have the boat on top of it.

Donate it to speedycop and have it appear in LeMons?

My dad cut one up that he bought for the trailer.  It does work.

If you are on the Book of Faces, there are a number of groups dedicated to small sailboats. You could probably get somebody take it off your hands. I already own two sailboats, a third would make my neighbors a bit miffed

The local dump here will take boats provided there isn't an engine/fluids in them. I'm guessing that isn't a problem with a sailboat.

I brought one on a trailer, they used a backhoe to hold it still while I drove the trailer out from under it, then they mushed it flat with the backhoe. It was fun to watch, and the guy doing the mushing seemed to get a giggle out of it as well. I did have to call them first so they were expecting me and could let me into a gate.

On the lawn out front as a planter or base for a fountain? This reminds there's a Fiero in Richmond I need to get a photo of.

It is really an interesting looking boat for sure. But now that it needs roughly $200 in fiberglass repair work, (I've never done it before so would be starting from scratch) it is less than worthless. Even if I were to repair it, I'd be stuck with a boat that is way too heavy for what it is and doesn't sail all that great. Which is why I want to throw it away and sell the trailer.

You can sawzall it down small enough to put out with residential trash. Every time the kitchen bag fills up you grab a piece of boat and throw it in the bag. It takes a while. Alternatively, it's only takes a couple of hours to take it down far enough to fit in a roll off. Fiberglass boats come apart easily once you get past the psychology of cutting up a boat.

Interesting little boat. Not sure what the market niche would have been. Sunfish that wont tip over?

We have to haul them to the county landfill.  It can be cut up or whole.  Makes no difference.
