As if an answer to a question from last year is even helpful to anyone, what you want for this task is a sharp non-serrated bread knife. The cut would have been cleaner on the edges if the roll was in plastic.

Get a meat blade for a bandsaw. It's serrated with the teeth about an inch apart. We used to use one to cut seat foam into 1" slices and it made a nice clean cut.

I've used a radial arm saw. Cut fast, don't be slow. Fine blade helps. I think the hand-held electric knife idea has lots of merit, though. Probably $5, if that, at thrift store/salvation army..

What about just a plain simple old electric knife????

Looks like I was beat to the idea.... But I make bread all the time... and nothing does a better job cutting warm bread... So what the heck right...

Why not give it a go...
