I know some commercial HVACR and they do well. Big jobs get big parts. Start small then get on a building HVAC maintenance staff. Steady work with lots of side work.

I'm worried about job market getting overly saturated, although with as many home owners and businesses now worried about cheaper ownership costs and going to greener technology, a background in HVAC mixed with knowledge of solar or wind power could have its benefits.

In the end, working someplace close to home always has its advantages. Saves lots of money, allows you to work late/early without worrying about a long drive. If you had an hour lunch you can go home and wrestle with the missus.
