Did your friend bust her face against the handlebars or the terrain?
Having some sort of chin/teeth protection makes a lot of sense. Not sure how you'd do that and still have good visibility to see skating backwards unless doing like a hockey face screen style.
With good safety gear I also love the big eyes and concerned "Dude... are you okay?" voices I get taking falls that I hardly feel, but would seriously put someone out who didn't have pads.
